It's been a long and winding road to get this comic out, but I finally have all the completed art from the artist, so I'm excited to announce that Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam #2 will be coming to Kickstarter at the end of next week. As I've been teasing, there will once again be some low print run collector variant covers. Coming to the end of the first week, and we just passed 50% funded. So things are going pretty well!
But it's been a lot more work this time than with most of my previous campaigns. For whatever reason, we're actually several hundred dollars behind where the first issue campaign was at the same point. So I am really grinding this one out, prooting it everywhere possible in a never ending losing battle against social media algorithms. It can definitely be a tough row to hoe, so I really appreciate all the support you guys have bene giving me, it helps a lot!
I had been hoping to start working on the third issue at this point as well, but I've decided I better hold off until I see how this campaign ends up doing. Even if I hit my goal there's a reasonable chance I may still lose money on this issue, so I don't want to start spending more until I find out whether there's enough interest to warrant a third issue.
I've got a big cross-promotion with the folks at Miskatonic High coming up, so we'll see how that imapcts anything. Once they are live I'll post all the details here.
Still a long ways to go!

The cross-promotion I mentioned with Miskatonic High is now live, so I thought I'd share it here. For those who aren't familiar with Miskatonic High, it's one of the most successful series on Kickstarter. They actually have a pretty regular distribution schedule, not monthly, but they get a lot of stuff out - their new campaign is issue #16, all of which have been done through Kickstarter. I think in the last 4+ years, so they're doing 4 issues a year or so, plus specials and stuff as well. The comic actually has a lot of similarities to Crimebusters, in that it follows a group of students (high school rather than college) who are constantly getting caught up in supernatural adventures. Just in the modern day instead of the 1950s. So I've been watching them closely since I began, as they're where I want to be. In addition, I've had the series artist, Ryan mendoza, do variant covers for both issues of Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam. So when we realized we would be live at the same time, we thought it would be cool to do a cross-promotion: anyone who backs both campaigns will get a special bonus print featuring the characters from both titles together. I suggested to Ryan that we do it as an homage to the classic cover of Justice League of America #21. Here's the print:  I'm pretty excited for this. I'm hoping people like it! Especially the 500+ backers that Miskatonic High usually gets!  We'll see how it goes! |

Well, there's 10 days left on the campaign, and I am looking forward to it being over. I love making comics, but the process of crowdfunding and trying to get the comics out to readers can be very difficult and not exactly great for mental health. There have been some real discouraging days recently, and I definitely appreciate everyone's support very much - not just the financial support, but more importantly the emotional support. Thank you everyone!

Last week of the campaign! It's been a real rollercoaster ride. We've hit the initial funding goal and are now working on stretch goals. No idea whether we'll hit it or not, nothing with this one has gone at all like the previous ones, or how I expected. So anyone's guess what happens from here. I'm hoping we get to both stretch goals, though, as I really want to make the next batch of trading cards.

There's less than 24 hours left in the campaign, so I just wanted to drop a reminder for anyone who wanted to back but hadn't had a chance yet. We've hit the funding goal, so this will be getting made. Just trying to reach the stretch goals now to unlock all the fun bonus rewards.
This one has been a real challenge on just about every level, so I'm not sure right now if I'm going to do a third issue. We'll have to see how the last day goes and how I feel once I have a chance to get some rest after this is all over.

So, now that I've just finished mailing out all the rewards from the last issue, I'm going to immediately launch another Kickstarter! Well, kind of. This is just a little one. The last couple of campaigns I've had a couple people chose a sketch cover as a reward, but of course I only have blank copies of Crimebusters #1. So I'm just doing a little, quick, no fuss campaign to print some copies of Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam #1 with a blank cover so people can get sketches on that instead, either from me, or from whoever they want. The goal for this is just $300, to cover the printing and shipping costs of the minimum print run my printer has. Since the comic is of course already long done, as soon as the campaign ends I'll be able to order the books so it should be pretty quick and easy. I've got the pre-launch page set up, but I won't be launching this one until The Crimebusters #5 is sent to the printer. The Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam #1 sketch blank Kickstarter campaign is now live! I'm looking forward to this in part because I want to be able to do some National Comics covers. DC technically hasn't trademarked the title, but they do use it occasionally, which is why my throwback covers have Adventures into the Unknown as the logo and numbering instead of National Comics. Since both Uncle Sam and Granny Gumshoe are from National Comics, though, that's the title I really want to do, so I intentionally am not putting any logo on these blanks so I can draw in the National Comics logo. |
