Midnight Mass on Netflix. I listened to that while drawing, and it's a pretty good supernatural story with a nice twist; nice in that it's not that surprising when it's revealed, but one wonders why we didn"t get it earlier. (Can't go into details for fear of spoiling things). What happens when religion seems to actually fulfill its promises? As one would expect, good people keep being good, and bad people keep being bad... and all must realize what they've done in the end. I really enjoyed it, and am glad it has a solid conclusion rather than an open door to a continuing series. First I heard of this one, might have to give it a look. I see it's filmed in BC but I assume it's an American show, and the story is set somewhere in the USA? Yes, it is set on an island on the east coast of the US, as they have a sheriff and the mainland is to the west. Plus they mention 9/11 and living in New York.

Watched the fourth season of Stranger Things this week. At this point, I've pretty much landed in the camp that believes the show should've been either a one-season miniseries or an anthology series. I've been gradually moving towards that position since Season 3; the bloated, disconnected storylines of this season combined with the Vecna retcons clinched the deal. I'll probably see the final season once it arrives; the show's still watchable, and I've made it this far, so I may as well. But the magic's not really there anymore. Season 4 was better than Seasons 2 & 3. I can do without the movie length episodes, though.

I don't know if anyone has been watching, but I finished the two seasons of Only Murders in the Building. The Hulu offering stars Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as true crime podcast fans who get involved in solving a murder (then another) in their Manhattan apartment building. Steve Martin is a freakin' national treasure and Martin Short is usually enjoyable. I honestly only knew Selena Gomez as a child star that I was vaguely aware of by cultural osmosis, but she's quite enjoyable as Mabel. It's honestly a super fun show that I recommend. It also usually has at least one pretty big name guest star per season, Sting in Season One, Tina Fey in Season Two and Paul Rudd appears to be on tap for Season Three.

I've also got about two episodes left of HBO's Perry Mason reboot from 2020. I was never a Mason fan (I'm a Cool and Lam guy) so I'm fine with them playing fast and loose with the characters. Honestly I'm just happy to see a noir-ish show set in the 30s. Overall, while I'm not completely wowed I've enjoyed it. Not a true noir, but not a true mystery either. It's a solid drama with a setting I love. L.A. at that time was a crazy place with a ton of potential. I know we're supposed to get a second season. I'm hoping that happens.

Yeah, I watched that some time last year and found it solidly enjoyable - I also like the setting and the cast is pretty stellar (hell, I like pretty much anything with Lithgow, even when he has a smaller or supporting role). I'd say my only criticism would be that it took so long for Mason to make the move from P.I. to attorney - although I loved the way it was done once it happened. And yeah, I would really like a second season.

It didn't bother me that it took that long. Honestly Mason was always as much PI as he was attorney. The way they went about making the transition was brilliant and would absolutely have worked then...but absolutely would not much later than the show was set.

I didn't even know about this new Perry Mason show, might check it out eventually. I just started watching the very first season of the '50s Perry Mason show. I saw re-runs on tv hen I was a kid but I don't think anything this early - Raymond Burr looks so young!
Last recent-ish thing I watched was Der Pass aka Pagan Peak, the German/Austrian version of the original Danish/Swedish series The Bridge - which I imagine must hold some kind of record for the most alternate or transplanted versions of a tv series that were done in roughly the same span of time, 2010s to now. It was pretty good - the best thing was the photography which was spectacular at times. But the story and characters must have done something for me too, because I binge-watched the last four episodes.
Prior to that, it was series 3 of Braquo, which pretty much kept to the standard set by the first two years. Hich-octane, grim and gritty in an almost over-the-top way at times, but done so well that it works.

Can’t believe it’s been three-and-a-half months since anyone added to this thread.
Anyway, has anyone else watched Wednesday on Netflix? It wasn’t something on my radar, but I sat down with my daughters for the first couple of episodes and got hooked, so I kept going with it through to the end.
I thought I’d figured it out the mystery by the fifth episode, but I was completely wrong, which I enjoyed. The fan service bits and nods to both the original show and the two movies were clever, which just added to the overall quality. Definitely recommend this show.

My wife wants to watch it, but we were waiting for Number Three Son to come home for Christmas. And since he got home we haven't had time. Probably will start this weekend.

I know I discussed the Resident Alien TV series with someone somewhere on this forum, but I can't find the thread, but this seems like a good enough place: Just watched the last (16th) episode of season two, so I'm all caught up. I absolutely love this show, it's probably my favorite new/ongoing series. Alan Tudyk in the title role is, I think, the secret ingredient, but the whole main cast is really good.

I'm not particularly a fan of the Addams family, but I really enjoyed the first two episodes. Honest fun in the Tim Burton tradition. Wednesday herself is a great character.

I watched the first episode last night with the wife and Number Three Son. Fun episode and Jenna Ortega is super charismatic and compelling as Wednesday. I was surprised to see Riki Lindhome of Garfunkel & Oates (though I guess maybe I shouldn't have been). It was also fun to see Christina Rici as the Dorm Mom. I almost didn't recognize her with bangs.

Slam_Bradley, glad you enjoyed it. Jenna Ortega was on some Disney Channel show my daughters used to watch, and she was the absolute best thing about the handful of episodes I had the misfortune of seeing. She is just loaded with talent. It’s also great that they got Gwendoline Christie in the show, and the young woman who plays Enid is super likable and is a fabulous counterpoint to Wednesday.

My wife watched and enjoyed Wednesday. I saw bits and pieces of a couple of episodes and it was ok, and I may watch it at some point, but my to view cheque is so long right now, not sure it will be any time soon.
I am getting around to watching the BBC series Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell, a Napoleonic era urban fantasy series based on a novel I haven't read but heard good things of.
