I like Clowes and Otomo, but not top 10.
Barely aware of Ware.
Don't know Panter.

I've read the first two volumes of the collected Akira from Kodansha and liked them, but nowhere near enough to put Otomo in my top tier yet.
Nothing I have read from Clowes or Wares really resonated with me. I respect their ability immensely, but just not really my cuppa, so no on both. My best man was a huge fan of Ware though, but wasn't in to comics much on any other level.
Panter is one of the few so far I have zero experience with to form an opinion, so no.

Daniel Clowes — Only read Ghost World. I was underwhelmed, to be perfectly honest.
Haven't read any of the others' work.

Day Nineteen Response and Wrap—Up
Love the film and the little of Akira I've read, but it's not enough to put Otomo in my list.
Clowes and Ware are mostly still random highlights of their career sitting in my backlog. I have a treasury-sized volume of Acme Novelty Library and it intimidates me every time I start to read it.
With Gary Panter I’ve probably only read a couple bits in Raw, but everything I hear makes me think I will love his stuff.
So no additions again today. My list so far: Frank Miller Jack Kirby Carl Barks Alan Moore Mike Mignola Jeff Lemire Bernie Wrightson

Day Twenty Choices
Okay so I feel like I have to at some point offer up Stan Lee as a choice. So today is that day.
And let’s get some other pretty big more modern names out of the way too. Are Matt Wagner, Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, Jonathan Hickman, Simon Bisley, or Rick Remender on your list?

I like what I've read of Wagner and I love, love, love JLGL, but not enough for either to make my list. I've never encountered Hickman or Bisley and I've never heard of Remender.
Cei-U! Still waiting!

I'm so happy I was finally able to get this sorted out (had to take a pause from this thread to think through one overall list).
Once I was able to make the psychological break that it was ok to include Perez but not Byrne, somehow it all fell into place.
Garcia-Lopez absolutely joins my list today (I had a spot for him since the beginning), his 70's Superman work is my favorite after Swan. I'm at 8 out of my 10, and the last two are accounted for and just waiting for them to be listed. Here they are:
Ross Andru John Buscema Sal Buscema Steve Ditko José Luis García-López Gil Kane Jack Kirby George Perez

Never heard of Remender?! Deadly Class, Black Science, Fear Agent?! Plus he’s done a lot of well received Marvel work apparently.

I like Stan Lee. He probably deserves a spot on my list, but there are a few problems. Firstly, he needed to be paired with a strong artist to really capture my interest. Secondly, I've already read his best stuff and there are plenty of other shiny things to draw my attention. Thirdly, much of my focus these days is on other creators playing in his sandbox.
I was a big fan of Wagner as a teenager -- Grendel, Mage, The Demon, Batman/Grendel, Batman LOTDK -- and just recently I enjoyed Sandman Mystery Theatre. That's a hell of a resume by itself. Probably doesn't crack my top 10, but definitely an honorable mention.
Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez gets props for Jonah Hex alone. I'd love to read more. I haven't read any Hickman or Remender. This is the first time I've heard of Remender. Bisley I mostly know from his work on Slaine and Lobo. I always thought he was a tad overrated. I read The Horned God a few years ago, and honestly I preferred some of the earlier Slaine runs. He was huge when I was a kid, though.

My exposure to Remender was on Uncanny Avengers, and I thought he was pretty decent on that. I also remember reading the first volume of Black Science when that came out, not too bad either, maybe worth picking back up.

Yeah, he did start in the industry (as an artist mostly) back in the late 90s, so he’s been around for 25 years now. But I guess he only really broke out big 15 or so years ago. Pretty sure he’s been at least nominated for multiple Eisner and Harveys and such.

So none of those make my top 10.
I quite like a lot of what I have seen of Wagner, Remender and Garcia-Lopez, but they would be fringe top tier at best. Remender actually first caught my attention as the inker on the latter half of the Busiek Avengers run (over Dwyer I believe) but he's mostly made a name for himself as a writer in the last 15 years. Fear Agent is probably my favorite thing from him, but some of his stuff fell flat for me (Tokyo Ghost and Deadly Class among them).
Bisley never resonated with me. I recognize the talent and the vision, but not one that brought me to the table because of its presence. Hickman mostly falls flat for me, as his stuff promotes big ideas, and that they may be, but they never seem to be fully baked into good stories. I did like his FF run and Black Monday Murders though.
Stan Lee-I think he might be one of the top 10 most important figures in comic history whatever you think of his actual creative contributions to the industry, but not one of my personal top 10 creators. The older I get, the harder I find it to enjoy reading his dialogue and captions. I find myself focusing on the art and the visual storytelling on classic Marvel and just skimming or ignoring the text when I revisit that stuff in recent years. But I cannot deny his role in making super-hero comics what they are today or his role as a touchstone figure representing comics in the public consciousness outside the hardcore fanbase.
