pinkfloydsound17 If you are going to dive into reading The Marvel Sonja stuff, make sure you get the Marvel Feature run (#1-7) that predates that Sonja series. For me, it's actually the better of the 2 series reading wise. -M PS iirc that Beowulf series is written by Michael Uslan-Chris Claremont and Don McGregor are envious of how wordy that series is. Reading the original Beowulf in prose in archaic English form is less of a slog than that series for me, but then I don't remember aliens or Dracula in the original either. PPS If you want to check out a very good comic adaptaion of Beowulf, check out Gareth Hinds adaptation from 1999...

I haven't got Detective #375 or #394 yet. But I ordered this today: That leaves #395 and #405 to go and I'll have every issue of Detective from #390 on. But I decided to read a couple of shorter runs before tackling Detective #393 to the present day. I finished off The Freedom Fighters (15 issues) and Kamandi (59 issues) in the last year or so and I've been meaning to read all the issues consecutively for both series. I started The Freedom Fighters already and I'm up to #3. Um, the Freedom Fighters is probably not for everyone, but I like it. The "fugitive heroes" storyline got a bit old by the end of 15 issues.

^ Love Batman from that era....dark and gloomy covers that really capture the mood. The 'Tec ish is a great batmobile cover! And I have always wanted to get some of those Frankenstein books. The covers look great. Awesome buys! Subjectively speaking, I love Marvel's 1970s Frankenstein series! Bronze Age Bonkers! The first six issues or so are a very loose re-telling of the book. It's set in the 1890s and some intrepid adventurers have dug the monster out of the Arctic ice, so the events of the novel are related by the captain of the ship and then after they release the monster, he tells his side of the story. Mike Ploog art! Then he wanders around the 1890s for a while, including a run-in with the last of the Frankensteins and then a multi-part adventure with Dracula! Then the setting moves to modern-day (1970s) and the series goes completely off the rails! It's nuts! I have every issue up to #10, but only half of the remaining 8 issues. This has been a long-term project as I bought the first six issues in the late 1970s when they were only a few years old. I got them for 50 cents each. Objectively, I think most comic book fans probably consider the series to be a bit of a mess. Especially after the initial six issues. But I like it! I love that series, particularly after it moves to the then-present day. Frankie later turned up in both MTU and Iron Man, following on from it. Great stuff.

I came oh so close to winning the first three issues in an auction but it went for more than I wanted to pay:(

I also put a high bid on a low- to mid-grade Detective Comics #405. The auction isn't over until Thursday, but it's already at $37. And I put a moderate bid on a low-grade Detective Comics #395. With only two days to go, it's at $5! And I put a moderate bid on Detective Comics #301 just because it's there and it's one I need eventually. Come on! Be honest! EVERYBODY needs Detective #301! Look at how sad Robin is that Batman's career is over?

I don't know if these fall within the guidelines for this thread, but these are the two I picked up from a used book store today:

Classic comic (and SF) related... I ordered a copy of Otto Binder: The Life and Work of a Comic Book and Science Fiction Visionary by Bill Schelly today. I read Schelly's bio of Joe Kubert. Hopefully this one is as good.

The auction for Detective Comics #301 is over in a few hours. It looks like it's in great shape (VG+ to F-) and it looks goofy as heck (so I want to read it) and it's one I need eventually, so I increased my high bid quite a bit. We'll see.

Im done buying old comic books even new comics for now. Since February, March and this month of April Ive bought enough of old comics and the more new modern stuff. Time to take a break and enjoy the stuff that I have now for the past 3 months.
I wont be doing any more comic book shopping until later this summer maybe in June, July or August. I wont be missing anything since I know the stuff will still be there at the comic book or I can catch up by buying recent new stuff off of online from Tfaw.com or whatever

Yeah, I'm feeling the same way. So far in 2017 I have bought 177 comics , not including new books on Wednesday. It's time to sit back and just enjoy them.

I didn't get the Detective Comics #301. It went above $30. Wow. But I did get Detective Comics #395 for only $12. I didn't expect I would get Detective #395 - even a beat-up copy - for less than $25. We'll see what kind of shape it's in when I get it. The auction for the #405 doesn't end for a few more days. Anyway, as soon as I get #395 and #397 (which I ordered a few days ago), I'll have every issue of Detective from #390 to the present day except #405.
