i went to the comic book shop and the only old back issues i bought are these
NOW Comics series of Real Ghostbusters. Issue 1 and issue 28 Fantastic Four # 263. But the odd thing about it is that its a year 2002 reprint of issue 263 of Fantastic Four and I didnt even know Marvel did reprints back in 2002.

Went to the Jim & Dan comic show this morning/afternoon (as well as a Target run for Mego and a Wal Mart run for the second issues of the 100 Page Giants, both off the same exit as the show). Still processing and taking pics of everything, but here's a peek at the haul.. and from the other side of the table... I'll put up more pics as I get them done. -M

So the first big of the purchase of the day was something that caught my eye on my initial walk through, something I had been looking for for a bit... Batman from the 30s to the 70s (now giving me all three books as I had the Shazam and Superman volumes already). Next up, I picked up a couple of Frazetta items... Eerie #2 and Frank Frazetta Illustrated #8. These were a consolation prize of sorts, as I saw for the first time in the wild this Frazetta cover... it was fairly high grade (VF-) and way out of my price range. I also picked up a few more magazine issues... and this one I had been looking for for a couple years now... the cover was just so absurd I had to have it. I also picked up the latest issue of Prowl, the self-published book by Adam Fields, #5 just came out earlier this week... and a handful of Silver and Bronze issues featuring Hawkman... more to come... -M

I also picked up some non-comic stuff... I had Stuart Sagyer add another pic to my Action #1000 jam cover, he asked if he could do Braniac, and so... and a close up... Stuart had done one of the retailer exclusive variants for Micronauts #1 and had a print of that cover, so I picked that up too... and a couple other prints of his... Doctor Fate... Ghost Rider... and a Knight Templar... and with every $20 you spent, you got one of three free prints, so I got the Batman and Poison Ivy prints... plus spent a little bit talking Micronauts toys, his art process and why he chose to do the disembodied heads of Force Commander and Acroyear on his Karza cover. He showed me a Batman/Maxx cover he just did for DC, but that got rejected by DC because he has someone hanging from the Bat logo. We also discussed him possibly doing a Micronauts commission for me early next year. The other things I picked up at the show was a pair of $5 action figures and a $1 replica Red Sox mini-helmet... and a Lovecraft anthology paperback I didn't have for a buck... overall, a fairly big haul, but I am only doing 1 more show this year (our hometown show Champion City in October). -M

Nice Pickups -- @mrp ... you need more boxes to store them!

What a haul!
All I've gotten is Spider-Man: Chapter One 1-12, and an 'Amalgam' issue that mixes Wonder Woman with Storm. Think I might enjoy them, I thought they sort of fit in with having those Flashback minus one-shots and the X-Men: Hidden Years.

There was quite a bit of negative backlash about 'Spider-Man: Chapter One', but I enjoyed it. People complained about 'modern' topical references(shades of that thread about 'Marvel Tales' reprints being 'updated'), and a famous scene of Uncle Ben and Peter being supposedly 'ruined'. But for all the Byrne-related complaints being discussed elsewhere, 'Chapter One' was among his better efforts of the '90s.

I figured as I was okay with Hidden Years, which people also complained about, I might dig this one too. I saw some of the pages with the old Avengers in them and a wave of nostalgia swept me! There's something about seeing circa 1964-65 Giant Man that makes me have to buy whatever it is!

As a result of backing the Scout: Marauder Kickstarter I received clean pdfs of the entire run of Scout and Scout: War Shaman. Not that I didn't already have full runs of both, but they haven't seen the light of day in eons. May be time for a re-read. Possibly even a review thread. Hmmmm.

Been picking up some things over the past few weeks here and there:
What If? #3, 10, and 27 - my LCS just put out a big collection of these and I've been grabbing one every time I stop in to get my weekly books. My sister just got me a gift certificate for the store for my birthday, so I may be splurging the next time I'm there on a handful of issues all at once.
At an estate sale this past weekend, I got the following, all for $1: Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos #65 - unbagged and still in really nice shape The Savage Sword of Conan #71, 80, 91, 95, 107, and 134 - I'm not a true collector of this series, but for $1 each, what the heck!
Later this week, I'll be out in @mrp 's neck of the woods and will be hitting some of the stores that he's recommended to me in the past, and then next week, I'll be slightly north of NYC for work, allowing me the opportunity to find some new places to hunt for bargains and Want List items.

Cool, let me know how the hunt out here goes. We are driving out to Vermont via I90 to visit my mom the week before Labor Day and my wife planned our stops around places that have comic shops along the way without me asking her to, so I will be checking out some new turf as we go. The first is in the Akron area, beyond that I am not sure what she found. -M

Found affordable but solid copies of Defenders #26-29, so I'm thinking that's the main Guardians storyline nailed down with the whole Marvel Presents run and Avengers/Two-In-One/Team-Up. #28 has a sort of dirty back cover but I found if you apply very mild spritz of soap to a paper towel then wipe once it's only faintly damp with a backing board underneath sometimes it will make a difference, but alas sometimes not, depends on the gloss or nature of the dirt I think. And also, don't go near the staples! Plus I added a Hulk #207 with a Defenders cross-over story. I guess I needed something old to look forward to. I get a real buzz adding another '70s Marvel to the accumulation, but five at once is going to have to last awhile. I looked at some Dave Cockrum items, saw a very cool mini-poster of Ms. Marvel and Deathbird from the '70s... but you can't have everything. I used to have the white plastic slurpee type cup for Ms. Marvel with Cockrum art on it, saw there was one for the X-Men... but can't have everything! And an Ideal toy comic called Star Force by him too... but you... can't... have... everything... fun just to look at them virtually anyway!
