The revived Mystery In Space, even if they may've had some content that was intended for the Time Warp title it replaced, was still a highlight of early '80s DC! The Kubert covers alone were usually worth the 50 cents, like the Kaluta covers were worth the $1 for Time Warp. Funny how difficult it was to sell science fiction comics other than Star Wars post-Star Wars... Star Hunters and Logan's Run both had short lives, in a way only Rom and The Micronauts had longevity if you count them as a sf. Well DC had some luck with the Star Trek comics too. -M

Amazing Spiderman 161. Part one of the 2 parter with Nightcrawler. This came out when I really really really liked the XMEN and Nightcrawler wasmy favorite character. I was probably 12. Now maybe I'll actually go back and read these 2 issues.

Now maybe I'll actually go back and read these 2 issues. I have #162 (in kinda rough condition) but not 161. I didn't get it until probably about 1981, so that was what I could afford at the time. I would have bought anything with an X-Men on the cover. And yeah, Nightcrawler is, or was, great, before Claremont decided to change him from the fun loving fuzzy elf that I loved.

A seller who had a couple of Toth and Frazetta books I was interested in also had a bunch a cheap books and flat shipping, so I picked up a handful or filler issues to go with those books... Robin Snyder's Revolver Annual (a.k.a. Frisky Follies) with a fairly unique Toth cover... and a pair of Theakston produced reprint books, Doc Weird's Thrill Book #1 and #2. #1 features a Frazetta/Williamson cover and story, and a 50s Toth reprint among others. #2 has an Orlando/Wood cover and story, another Wood story and a Jack Cole sci-fi reprint and some of the filler stuff to pad the order... a couple of Pioneer's strip reprint collections, 2 of Jungle Jim by Raymond and a Williamson/Goodwin Secret Agent some miscellaneous indy books... Will Meuginot's Vanity #1, two issues of Perez's Sirens, one of the Frazetta Dark Kingdoms series Image did, the last issue of Gladstone's Dick Tracy strip reprint series I needed, and an Bill Black/AC sword and sorcery book... and a few more... one of 2 issues of Niles/Wrightson's Dead, She Said I needed, the first issue of the First Wave Spirit series with a Ladronn cover and a Sienkewicz b&w back up, and an issue of the Timm-verse inspired Adventures of the DC Universe-a fun series I pick up issues of that I don't have whenever I see them Nothing earth-shattering, but lots of stuff of interest to me. -M

Serious envy on Amazing Spider-Man #161! I used to have it but never did find #162. They got a bit pricey because of the Punisher appearance (bleh) on top of the X-Men.

I just got an order in the mail from Lonestar Comics. I decided to fill some gaps.
I bought: Avengers #166, 190, 237, 253, 282, 283, 289, 290 Avengers Annual #11, 12, 13 Captain America #268, 276, 277 Excalibur #3 Suicide Squad #5
Inspired by reading along with the recent 3-part CCF Podcast on Avengers, I decide to complete a big hybrid run of Avengers (meaning originals and TPBs combined). So a lot of this is in the form of black & white Essentials (and other TPBs), but I'm now only missing one regular issue through #300 and one non-reprint annual through #16. To be frank, I think I just forgot to put those two in my cart.
I moving closer to a similar hybrid run (floppies & reprints) of Captain America through #350, but I've got a handful still to go.
The Excalibur issue gives me the first 10 issues. The Suicide Squad issue gives me the first 9 issues.

Not easy to get a UK 12p cover price variant of DCCP 1 in NM I think DC variants with pence were much scarcer than the Marvel pence issues.

Here's the latest batch of stuff from the FB group I am in run by the organizer of Gem City Con and with other local dealers and collectors, which arrived in my mailbox yesterday. This pretty much covers all of the November auctions arriving in one batch. First up a batch of Batbooks... Tec 428 has one of the Bronze Age Hawkman back ups I needed, and the reason I bought the Tec lot (which ran only $5, most places I've seen #428 run for more than that alone). The Death of the Maidens was a set for $5, and the others were a buck or two each. The second group (of two) The Man of Steel lot was a buck for the whole series, The Superman Confidential is a Darwyn Cooke/Tim Sale collaboration. Salome is PCR opera, and the Haunt of Fear is one of the Gemstone tpb (technically an annual), it has the first 5 (or 6 I have to check) issues of the series collected. I, Vampire was one of the few new52 relaunches I liked and the trades are oop, and the 1st printings of some new52 books can get outrageous asking prices, so when I saw this one for a buck, I snagged it. Lots of stuff in the group seems to get overlooked as many of the members are focused on Spider-Man stuff, Star Wars stuff, X-Men stuff and the Marvel keys that show up (more modern stuff like st Jane Foster issue of Thor, Miles Morales early appearances, etc. DC and indy stuff doesn't seem to get as much love, which suits me just fine. The first December auction just ended today and I picked up a few other things, but I won't have Jesse ship until the end of the month after I see what's up with a few more auctions. But here's a taste of what I snagged today... 1st Kirby Fourth World book Jimmy Olsen #133... (I paid less than the sticker price) a Scooby Doo lot... A high grade Lois Lane bondage cover (the price on it says $50, I got it for $2) and a reader World's Finest for a buck... -M

^ I haven't tried those Scooby Doo books (yet) but did like The Flintstones. I've tried the Scooby Doo Team Up book and quite liked it, and sampled some of the other Scooby stories in the Walmart 100 Page Giant one shot and liked them too, so when I saw these at a decent price I snagged them. Prices on Scooby Doo back issues have been crazy the last 2-3 years, so I am not sure I will ever manage a long run of them, but most are standalone stories so I pick up those I can when I fond them at the right price. -M

I did the same thing-- bought around 50 books, mostly space fillers and several "last issue needed" things. Nothing of real note, I think the most expensive book was around $7.00, and most were under $3.00.

This is the first December in years where I didn't just buy many completing books. Usually I would fill in my gaps this month, but I don't really see anything that I want or maybe I'm just not in the mood this year.

Avengers 166 completed my all time favorite Avengers storyline. If I had to choose just three issues... probably too. Claremont/Byrne got much more exposure, but Shooter/Byrne could've rocked just as much.
