Is the #2 you got the 35 cent test variant? They are pretty rare and pretty pricey. Nope. 60¢ version.

While I haven't purchased anything in a while, I've been re-examining my collection. I've been CGCing some issues for posterity as a project; I plan on getting a spinner rack and showcasing them off when I'm done. The second project is making my own library of comic runs that I love and deserve to be collected. I am binding comic runs from my longboxes and having them on my shelves now. I've done mostly DC/Vertigo books and a couple of superhero runs, but this JSA run by Len Strazewski and the late Mike Parobeck is finally getting the treatment it deserved. This is my personal bound copy of the 10 issue run of JSA.

"...the delightful art of Mike Parobeck."
Can't argue with that

I was able to find a third copy of Buzz #2 (November 1990). This issue has the first interior story appearance of Frank by Jim Woodring.
So, I put it with my other Buzz #2 copies and took a picture. The cover is pretty interesting in an unforgettable sort of way but it is still kind of unfortunate that a grotesque cg Popeye is the cover art haha (of course this is the intent and all that). I like the cover to Jim Volume One #4 more, which is the actual first artwork appearance of Frank by Jim Woodring - except it is a cover only piece, there is no Frank story within the issue. But I only have two copies of that and they are magazine sized. Maybe one day I will find a third copy so it will be 3 and 3 haha.

Welp with Gem City Comic Con '21 in the books and Jesse back from a week of R&R after it, the auctions on his FB group have resumed. They started up last week, and yesterday was the end of the second round since the return. I have a bunch of trade credit with Jesse for a bunch of vintage rpg stuff he got off me, so I have been picking up stuff the last two weeks, some I was hunting, some just caught my eye, and some was cheap nostalgia. Here's what I got... EC reprints/facsimiles at a good price, I'll take those all day every day... same thing with DC Silver Age Classics (or Millennium Editions) and I'll grab a Corben story I don't have any time I see one... I don't collect Batman per se, but if I see issues I don't have on the cheap it's hard to pass them up... I put together and read the run of Omega Men a couple years back (even sprung for the first Lobo app to do so), but the one thing I had not gotten was their first appearance in the Green Lantern book, now I have it... and since I was getting that, I snagged this for a buck too, as I will pick up DC Special or DC Special Series issues I don't have when I see them... and then a couple nostalgia grabs for a buck, two Perez covers among them (and Cowan art on the interiors on one of them) nothing major or earth shattering, but some fun stuff on the cheap without having to leave my house to get it. -M

I stopped at a comic shop in NJ called Comics Crypt. It had a pretty big selection of back issues but I just looked through the .25 bin. 5 for 1 dollar. I picked these up. Let the scorn begin- Youngblood # 2,3 first Prophet and first Supreme. ( I'm still looking for a blockbuster movie for Prophet) This Stormwatch series was a pretty decent read. This was a pretty entertaining spinoff from Cyberforce

I had most of those I bought off the rack at the time... got rid of most of them last year.. I think I kept the Stormwatch ones. I'd imagine they'll bring a certain level of nostalgia happiness.

Yep. I bought them all when they came out and got rid of them over the years. But 20 cents each ? I couldn't pass them by.

At least not until you show 'em off in our Zoom get together. Then, you are so gonna get it 😉LOL GREAT deal for a bit of nostalgia and happiness is priceless in todays crazy world. Stand tall during your walk of swag...not shame!

All that's very good and all, while talking among ourselves, but some comics give "comics" a bad name. The shame is with the publishers who still get them out the door every week.

I'll make you a deal... you can pay me 50 cents a book to take them off your hands... except the Doctor Solar... I'll take that one off your hands for free.
Seriously though-- I never got into a bunch of the Image stuff at the time. I have a few of the early titles, but nothing major-- I just wasn't crazy about most of the artwork, and I didn't really care for the slick production look in their comics... I felt the same way about Valiant. That feeling has mellowed over the years, and I'm sure that there's something worth reading that I missed because of my initial dismissal of the titles.
Oh sure, I picked up Spawn for awhile, as well as 1963 and a few others. But I'm glad that the age of foil and holographic gimmick covers, over-proportioned inverted triangle body shapes, giant unrealistic guns, bulging ammo pouches and multiple bandoliers is behind us.
Main thing is, if you enjoy the book, then it was a worthwhile purchase-- nobody else's standards need to apply.

Not a purchase but still want to share. Self preserving some of my comics for posterity, I got back 7 of underground comix from CGC. The Crumb below is pretty much the safest cover I could post. The problem with finding good undergrounds is the handling of them over the 50 plus years. Lots of finger indentations, spine creases, coloration but I buy the best I could find. - Grim Wit #1 & 2 (first Den in comics) - Anomaly #4 (Corben cover and story) - Harold Hedd #2 (Rand Holmes) - Jiz Comics (Crumb) - Snatch Comics #2 & 3 (Crumb)
I'm happy with the grades I got, knowing I what condition I bought them in. Anything over a 7.0 I consider a major victory.

Picked these up about a week ago, showed a couple on the last Zoom call, but Icctrombone hogged most of the show-off time in that call (kidding) . Just now getting the chance to post them.
First, I found a beautiful VF copy of Warlord #1. Also picked up another VF copy of Forever People #8. This is a personal favorite, as it is the book that first introduced me to Kirby's Fourth World when I was a kid. I bought this one off the rack back then, and then hunted and traded for every possible back issue of Forever People, New Gods, Mister Miracle and Jimmy Olsen that I could lay my hands on. I didn't collect them all until I was in my 20's, but my love for this crazy quartet of books has never faded. Added a Superman 25-cent issue and a Challengers issue to round out this one. Next is a couple of Romita Spider-Man issues that I recall from childhood... was always intrigued by the Spider Slayer. Plus, two more issues of Archie (MLJ) Mighty Comics Presents... getting close to completing this run... but man, are Jerry Siegel's scripts goofy or what?
A trio of Bronze Marvel books-- three issues of Astonishing Tales (another one I'm closing in on finishing), and a silver-age issue of Millie... Now on to the creepy corner-- couldn't pass up the beautiful Wrightson Swamp Thing covers... and I've cut the number of issues I need to complete Unexpected-- 24 to go. More silver age goodness-- this time with a quartet of Charlton war titles....
And we close this round with more silver-age Charlton titles, and a great looking issue of Our Army at War.
