I'm used to all Firestorm series' being quarter bin fodder. They have been since the day they were first published. Hey! I happen to like the series so far. But, that's my spot for comics: late 70's-the late 80's. So, it's worth something to me.

I've got nearly an entire run of the first Firestorm series. Hmmm... *sees dollar signs* $$$$$$$ But it's collected (and then some) in TPB. Does that do anything to the worth/price of the comic books?

Is that a trade for the old Firestorm series? Neat.. didn't think such a thing existed! Yes it is! And it even has a/the 6th issue that apparently wasn't published/something-to-that-effect (I could be completely wrong on this as I used google for my info). I'm SO GLAD I found this because when I originally looked into reading Firestorm, I wanted his original '78 series, but the singles can go for quite a bit more than I am willing to pay. Now, I just need to find #7 and #23 for less than the price of a bodily organ of his '82 series, and I can start getting that in as well. I have 1-4 of that series, but I need MORE. It's great, imo. There was a sixth issue of the original Firestorm series that was finished and ready to go to print, but fell victim to the DC Implosion of 78, where many of DC's series were abruptly cancelled. The sixth issue of Firestorm, along with many other of the completed issues that were caught in the implosion were published (technically) in the two volume Cancelled Comics Cavalcade. That was "published" for copyright purposes in a run of about two dozen of each volume that were distributed to staffers, Overstreet Guide, etc. Bootleg sites are available that have the contents of the CCC, which can be downloaded and printed if you have a mind to. Not advocating that, of course, because it's technically not legal, but there you go. See: DC Implosion-Wikipedia

Along with a Flash issue, and some other things. It should be here Wednesday.

Was out shopping with Amy today getting odds and ends for the holidays and we stopped at a store called Ollie's which deals in buyouts, etc. In their book section they had grab-bags of comics 10 for $6 ranging in books from the 80s-current Marvel Now stuff. Didn't get any of those, but they also had a crap-ton of Checkers trades-I picked up 5 volumes of Milton Caniff's Steve Canyon-1949, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1954 all for $2.99 each plus an extra 15% off for Amy's shopper's club. Some comic shop or warehouse unloaded this stuff to Ollie's for pennies and I was happy to get a chance to sample some of the Caniff's stuff for the price. They had a bunch of Early Work's of Windsor McKay and CrossGen trades too, but I had the Cross Gen volumes they had and decided t pass on the McCay stuff for now. Here's the 1953 volume... -M I once owned the first volume of Steve Canyon stories that Checker put out, but I just couldn't get on with it. Although I'm definitely NOT a fan of Golden Age comic books generally, I do enjoy the Dick Tracy and Rip Kirby adventure strips of the era, but Steve Canyon just bored me rigid. Lovely artwork, of course, but horribly unrealistic dialogue and two-dimensional characterisation, which just killed my enjoyment of the strip. I had the exact same reaction to Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon strip BTW. I gave my volume of Steve Canyon newspaper strips away to some member of the old CBR Classic Comics Forum who lived in America, but I forget who it was now. Identify yourself, whoever you are, if you're reading this.

Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedI bought all this stuff at my local stores annual 50% off sale. So all the ticket prices or cover prices were 50% off. Not pictured was books 1-5 of the newer printings of Preacher. I'll just have to pick up volume 6 for the whole series. Booster Gold was a nice suprise and even the guy at the counter said he couldn't believe it was still there and hadn't been sold.
