I was saying the other day, over in the "What's Your Collecting Status" thread, that I've bought very few back issues of collected editions over the last year or so. Anyway, I figured that it was time I treated myself to a few (more comics are still on the way in the post). So far, I've taken delivery of some tasty Bronze Age Batman comics in pretty decent condition... As you can see, I also got an issue of Doctor Strange from the Steve Englehart run which I needed (though the front cover is a little bit grubby). And I also bought a trio of Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD comics from the late 60s. These 3 issues were a really decent price, and although they're probably towards the lower end of what I'd call "reasonable mid-grade copies", they are complete and fairly solid...

Brunner's covers were so great - and the interiors lived up to them. Much as I love the Colan/Palmer art duo I'm torn whenever I try to decide which I prefer between them and Brunner as Englehart's partner on the character and the series.

I don't know what this is but it looked interesting and was cheap:
It is from the year 2000 and has some cool Oscar Jimenez (in issue 1 and 2) and Javier Saltares (issue 3) art just glancing through.
Avataars is basically an alternate universe Avengers story that takes place in a high fantasy universe. The knight on the covers of issues 1 and 2 is Steve Rogers. The bad guy is a fantasy version of Baron Zemo. You can see some of the other Avataars on the cover of issue 3, including that world's version of Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye.

I stated in a recent Zoom session that Nick Fury #10 is probably one of my all-time favorite silver-age covers... More so than the Steranko covers in the same series-- Frank Springer pencils with a combo ink job by Johnny Craig and Romita Sr. The cover of issue #10 has always "spoken" to me for some reason. Perhaps it is the colorist's palette, but it has always reminded me of classic Santa/Christmas illustrations by George Hinke and Haddon Sundblom (respective examples below)--
Great stuff!

Finally got my issues with MyComicShop/Lone Star resolved and ordered the following:
Avengers (1998) 43-45, 48, 50-56, Annual 2000-2001 Defenders (2001) 11-12 Doctor Mid-Nite 2-3 JSA (1999) 45, 47-49, 55-58, Annual JSA Secret Files and Origins 2 JSA: The Liberty File 1-2 Shazam: The Monster Society of Evil 3-4 Spectre (1999) 25-44
This order completes my runs* of all these titles so I'm a happy li'l collector right now.
Cei-U! I summon the satisfaction!
* Or, in the case of Avengers and JSA, completes them as far as I wanted to go.

I finally found some items of moderate interest at my Ollie's:
Betty & Veronica by Adam Hughes: I'm not usually a fan of modernized, off-model takes of classic characters, but I am a fan of Hughes and I enjoyed the Free Comic Book Day issue of #1 I got a few years back.
All-Star Batman: Ends of the Earth and Batman: Zero Year - Dark City by Scott Snyder and various artists: I haven't loved everything Snyder's done but I have enough to give these a shot. Some great artists. I'll just ignore the fact that they're New 52/Rebirth/whatever the hell.
Batman Noir: The Long Halloween by Loeb & Sale: I read the original version years ago and don't remember anything about it but I think I enjoyed it. Not sure about the B&W gimmick.
Except for B&V they are all hardcovers, total cost about $25. (LH has a $50 cover price alone.)

Got these in the mail. I need 15 more books to complete the series. I'm not sure I will because the upper numbers are too pricey. Pricey for me is above 10 dollars a book or more. This is a series that doesn’t deserve to be that expensive.

It's interesting to read these comments about Lonestar from folks living North America. As a European resident, I had the same experience with them (increased shipping costs putting them out of my price range) about a decade ago. Last time I ordered anything from them was about 2 years ago when they were having some kind of sale - that just barely made the shipping costs tolerable. It's disappointing to hear that they're now charging similarly outrageous shipping rates for Canada as well. And yeah, I've noticed their prices for back issues going ever upward as well. Speaking of Canada, though, there's always Doug Sulipa's Comic World, isn't there? Or has he started charging outrageous postage as well? Thanks, I hadn't heard about this until now, I'll definitely give it a look. Their website doesn't look too easy to navigate, at a glance. Is there a search function? Or do you have to click on one of those individual links if you can find the one that leads to what you're looking for?

Sulipa has a tremendous selection, but his website is even more "1995" than Mile High's website. Your best bet is to use a browser with a find/text search function.

Or do you have to click on one of those individual links if you can find the one that leads to what you're looking for? The archaic nature of the website is probably why it's not more popular or better known. As tartanphantom said, you have to open up one of the listing links and then just scroll down the old-fashioned way or do a word search. Another annoying aspect is that he doesn't list the prices up front; rather, you have to send him an e-mail and ask for anything you're interested in buying. I ordered some comics and paperbacks from him a number of times in the '00s, because he offered really good prices and the shipping costs (to Europe) were quite reasonable. However, after about 2009/10, he had to start charging more for postage and basically became too costly for me. His selection, though, is absolutely amazing, and he carries so much more besides comics (i.e., magazines, old paperbacks, etc.). If you're in Canada, it might be worthwhile to order from him despite the site's limitations. I should say that I would love to be given free rein to rummage through his warehouse for a week or so...

These 3 Treasuries (10' x 13') reprint the first Danger Girl series (1-7) from the late 90s. This is when Campbell did some good artwork between the cover as well. These are really nice to look at.
