dbutler69 - Nice haul today!! I've been after a reasonably priced Jimmy Olsen #99 forever, love the Legion theme with that one. Always liked those early Faora appearances as well. Yeah, the Legion theme is a major bonus for me, too!

Back to X-men Nice VF+ X-men 115. IMHO, X-men 111-115 were Byrne’s and Austin’s best work on the series

Sadly, my local comic shop's long-running 50% off section is now 30% but it can still be a pretty good deal so I snagged Absolute Green Lantern/Green Arrow which reprints the O'Neil & Adams run for $70. Got it for 59€ + postage last month (it was slightly damaged, like NM-).

Story wise, the Phoenix and Proteus sagas were the high points, but art wise I would have to agree 111 was more detailed than say 142, although it was more mature by the end. I'd venture Byrne's commitment went down as time passed (I read in an interview a long time ago that the dialog below sent his relationship with Claremont into disarray).

I agree 100% X-men 126-128 is so well written. That and Avengers 164-166 are my all time favorite story arcs in comics. I too heard that about Byrne leaving X-men and not to bear a dead horse but I wonder if he used that as an excuse to just get off the book.

Everything is possible, but again, from memory, he said the dialogue was some Germaine Greer "stuff" and not at all what they had discussed. I could perfectly understand him being pissed about it.

Here's the books I got in the FB group auction that ended yesterday... Death Rattle #1 $1 the run of Marvel Megazine, I remember picking these up because they had a lot of classic reprints in them and being disappointened when it was cancelled after 6 issues. I liked the Megazine format. Not sure what happened to my copies, but now I have them again, the whole lot of 6 for $4 Brave & the Bold (3rd series) #1 with some great Perez art ($2) and a Silver Age House of Mystery (#69) for $2 so works out to $9 for 9 comics -M

I agree on both of those arcs, and X-Men #126-128 is soooo underrated - it gets overshadowed by the Dark Phoenix Saga, unfortunately.

Following a recommendation from chaykinstevens a few weeks back, I purchased a copy of the Batman: Tales of the Demon TPB from 1991. This reprints all the earliest Denny O'Neil penned Ra's al Ghul stories from the Bronze Age. Really looking forward to dipping into this.

Went on a tear this weekend, bought a large number of books, but haven't had a chance to snap pics yet, so that will come in a later post.
In the meantime, this arrived today -- an eBay purchase from about a week ago.
I've been looking for this book for my kilt/Scottish collecting subset (@mrp , you collect the red dresses, and I'll stick with plaid) ever since Farrar posted it in my cover contest (Kilts!) back in 2019.
This copy came from Germany, although it is a US edition-- Tip Top Comics #136 from November 1947. It's well-read and well-loved, but it's solid and it's all there.
Very, very pleased in even finding a copy of this book. Besides, what's not to love about an Ernie Bushmiller cover?

Did you inquire what the consequences were for removing that copy from the library? You just want to make sure that all Scotch in a 1 mile radius doesn't get transmuted into Canadian Club because of some curse if the bag is opened anywhere outside the library... -M

Frankly, I have a bigger issue with some unscrupulous librarian assistant haphazardly stamping black ink all over Fritzi's shapely cartoon gams.
Library rules be damned; that was totally uncalled for.
