Oh, great! Thanks for the info!
I'm also not a price variant stickler on these books, because, as you say, it seems to make little difference.
However, I do like finding both the Spire and the Barbour variants when they exist, because the covers are occasionally different or re-colored, plus the obvious corner logo differences between the two.
Something I do very rarely...I had to settle for a "placeholder" copy of this Archie Sports Scene until I can get one without that price-sticker. Which I blame SPIRE for because they printed this book without a cover price so many of the Christian bookstores besmirched the cover with price-tags. Without the tag it's a pretty nice copy....pray I don't do the hair-dryer 'tag removal' procedure on it and try to peel it off. Doesn't the price sticker add a little historical provenance? I only mention it because I know that you're partial to a UK price stamp on the covers of Silver and Bronze Age Marvels, so I figured this might have a similar appeal?

I treated myself to a couple of comics from my Wants List this week: Doctor Strange #10 (1975) and Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD #6 (1968). Both are in solid condition, though the Doc Strange issue is the better of the two. There's a fair bit of chipping/creasing on the cover of the Nick Fury comic and also some budding artist has given one of the interior panels a bit of "aftermarket embellishment", though I must say I find that particular defect rather charming.

Whoa! Is that evil, Mirror Universe Nick Fury?

Unfortunately when it comes to grading, price-stickers are penalised quite heavily. Price stamps also get penalised somewhat....only date-stamps seem to get a bit of a lenient pass.
But this is one of those instances where I need a book to complete a set (it's one of the hardest books to get in the Spire Archie run) so it will have to hold the fort for the time being.

When you're buying Spire comics, you might occasionally run across a similar-looking comic from a company called Logos. My father worked at Logos when they published their comics, but I didn't end up with copies of any of them. I'm interested in acquiring them now.

Is it these 4?

Take a look at who's quoted in the third paragraph on that page.

Archie's Circus is another very hard to get issue, either the Spire or Barbour printing. Amazingly, I got both of these in a set of 4 for a quarter each, yep 25c per copy. This variant isn't even listed on Chuckle's site but he lists all NM copies for $130, or about 520x what mine cost me....I'm very near to a full set of all 19 (not including price variants which are for the most part negligible as they all guide for around the same).

Some recent purchases, mostly local.
First, Crimebuster was kind enough to locate a very nice copy of Star Spangled War Stories #85 for me, which is the 2nd appearance of Mademoiselle Marie. I need three more issues to complete this rather short character run, but they are rather difficult to locate and tend to be somewhat pricey, especially #84, which I do not yet have.
Also, a birthday gift from one of my bandmates, the color trade comp Steve Ditko in Outer Space, which collects several of his Charlton sci-fi stories from the early 1960's.
I'm also working on a complete series of Warren Publishing's The Rook. Aside from his self-titled magazine, The Rook actually got his start in the pages of Eerie, and also appeared on rare occasion in Vampirella. These issues are two such appearances.
Continuing on, I picked up three more issues of The Rook magazine, as well as an issue of Warren Presents:, which features some compiled stories from his Eerie appearances.
Next, another mish-mash of oddball titles, once again demonstrating my eclectic and somewhat unpredictable tastes in sequential art--
More mish-mash, including a couple of Charlton Phantom issues-- still a long way to go to complete this series.
Finally, my post wouldn't be complete without at least one or two Charlton horror books (in this case, covers by Zeck and Ditko)-- AND a random western comic!

I wonder why they never did an Eastern Gunfighters, like the West Coast Avengers only in the opposite direction?

Picked up 3 issues of Hex at Comic Warehouse: And then finished it off at Age of Comics: I was super sure that I wouldn't be able to finish the whole thing locally and would have to order something online.

Congratulations! Now sit back and enjoy the weirdness of that series. I'm a huge JH fan, and Hex worked pretty well until Fleisher kind of lost interest in scripting it. The later Giffen art issues are my least favorite of the run, not because I don't like Giffen (I do), but his style totally clashes with this character.

Because it would have to be named Eastern Dudes and Dandies by the standards of the old West.

Hm, yeah, but that's a picture of Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid and the rest of the Wild Bunch, a very Western gang of outlaws.
The equivalent of the Western gunfighters in the East in the late 19th/early 20th century would have been the various 'ethnic' gangsters (Irish, Italian, Jewish, etc.).

Happy belated birthday ( 60) tartanphantom. I think I'll mail that Youngblood #3 ( first Supreme) to you as soon as I can.
