So it was a gorgeous day out and I took a ride out to my lcs today to pick up my pulls. While there I rooted through their 50 cent bins and found a "wall book" for the right price tha tI picked up. I also wandered over to the used book store in the same village that has a good selection of back issues, all of which were 25% off today, plus I rooted through their 25 cent and dollar bins. I only got 1 regular back issues there at the 25% sale but got a stack of quarter bin and dollar bin stuff. So the one back issue I got at Dark Star, the used book store was an Alex Toth issue of Hot Wheels... after discount it was just a little over $10, which is a great price for these, as I usually never see them in any grade under $25. The "wall book" I got at my lcs, was a lower grade Batman Treasury for $8 (minus my subscriber discount) At my lcs, I grabbed some recent DC stuff from the 50 cent bins... and from the dollar bins at the book store I grabbed the following... Where I loaded up though, was from the quarter bins, where I grabbed a bunch of DC stuff to check out as I have been in a big DC mood lately... These should keep me busy for a bit. I do have 2 shows I am scheduled to attend in March, the quarterly Jim and Dan show over at Wright State University on the 10th, and the spring Champion City Comic COn here in my town an the 27th. We'll see what I can turn up at those two shows. -M

I made a mistake when I said #166 would complete my collection of the 100-Page Super-Spectacular issues of Superman Family. I guess I looked at my notes wrong somehow. I came across #164 for $3 and that only left #169 … so I got that for $7.50.
And there was a #171 for $5.20. #171 is not a 100-Page Super-Spectacular, but it has a Supergirl/Batgirl team-up AND Cleopatra guest-stars! So I had to get that!
So I should be getting Superman Family #164, #166, #169 and #171 in the next week or so.

I enjoyed its quirks as well, mainly because of the Michael Fleisher script. I was OK with Mark Texiera's art, but when Giffen took over the interior art on the last 4 issues (15-18), I have to say that I wasn't exactly pleased with the results. Nothing against Keith Giffen, I like a lot of his art on other titles, but I think he was phoning it in on Hex, just to limp the series to the finish line. I think he was more focused at the time on prepping his work in the Justice League series, which debuted shortly after Hex ended.

The "wall book" I got at my lcs, was a lower grade Batman Treasury for $8 (minus my subscriber discount) My brother had this, and I remember reading it over and over again when we were kids. That was when I was reading mostly Marvel, but I did develop a great appreciation for DC reprints and the 1940s characters, mostly JSA and Batman-related material. It wasn’t until a few years later that I read modern Batman and Detective regularly. So these stories are some of my much-beloved Batman stories. Especially “The Cross Country Crimes” with the Joker, and the Scarecrow story. I went forty years without reading it before I finally got my own copy a few years ago.

I guess not technically purchased by me, but purchased by the money I make, but my wife surprised me with a TPB of Batman Long Halloween which I have never read. I wasn't a big fan of Tim Sale's art back then when I was first into comics. But I have come to appreciate his style a lot more since. So I look forward to reading it.

A weekend fifty cent sale at a local shop had me finding a box full of oddities including some ten cent duck books, and a Distant Soil book signed by Doran and a bunch of the artists including Simonson.

About 3 weeks ago I won an auction for Jack Kirbys's fourth world 1-20. It's the complete set and it was originally starting at 20.dollars It didn't sell so he lowered it to 10 dollars for the 20 issue set and I won it. He never sent it. I sent him 2 messages and he never responded. Today , I alerted eBay that I never got the item and suddenly the seller sends me a message telling me he's going to refund my money. He blamed his wife for not getting a tracking number.

He didn't want to send it for a tenner or he'd ask you if you still wanted the books and send them.
I only had one incident in the past year, guy apologized for taking 2 weeks to get his crap together and asked me if I still wanted the item, saying he'd have to issue a refund without even getting the money from paypal yet. It was a $100 item (giveaway price) that usually has an asking price over $500 because it's a rare exclusive from one of those kickstarter things (only 100 produced with a HC and signed by creators)....so after I cussed chewed him out I said okay and he sent it.....

You could be right. If his story is that his wife sent it out without a tracking number, then it's still enroute. But I doubt it will be arriving.

Yeah, I agree with Rags...the tracking number story is almost certainly a load of old b*llocks. I reckon he just thought better of letting you have the comics for 50 cents an issue.
