Parasol Protectorate is really good if you can take a bit of a romance novel mixed in with your steampunk.

true.. probably why I like it, I don't really like those genres alone, but when you mix them together with a decent dollup of mystery and action it's pretty good. Definitely on my 'series to re-read one of these days' list (though I'll have to re-purchase on of the books my daughter lost)
