This was 100% the first comic I ever bought with my own money. And this was the first Marvel comic I purchased.

This was 100% the first comic I ever bought with my own money. Fortunately your judgment has improved since then. Though an apparent guest appearance by Lady Cop must mean you were buying it to slab it.

Well it was a while before I had regular comic book access; so, this will be all over the place. My first comic would have been a Gold Key, either an Uncle Scrooge, Super Goof or maybe a Beagle Boys issue. I think. First Captain Marvel was.... #10 Also the first comic I picked out for myself. I was sick, with bronchitis, and we stopped to fill a prescription, at a drug store, and my mom let me have a comic. I really can't say, for Superman or Batman. I know I encountered them in the Filmation cartoons before comics. Wonder Woman would be this one (#219).... The Flash (#230)... Justice League #120 These were all via my neighbor, Kenny, who got comics a lot more regularly than I did. He also provided the first Captain America I saw; but I'm not sure which one it was (though I think it was from Colan's run). Daredevil is easier to figure... Giant-Size Daredevil #1 It reprints the first annual, with Colan drawing about every villain he had faced, plus the cool features on the billy club and the brownstone. That made me a fan. X-Men was Giant Size #2 The entire Sentinels storyline, from Roy Thomas and Neal Adams (minus the sort of prologue, with Alex Summers and the Living Pharoah/Monolith. The part where they switched clothes with Quicksilver, Toad and Scarlet Witch had me totally confused. I thought Cyclops' powers were in the visor. The first Avengers was either.... #10 or #146 Kenny had 146; but, my next door neighbor picked up #10 at a garage sale and I can't recall which I saw first. First fantastic Four (Giant Size #3) Sort of a superhero mullet: Rich Buckler in the front, Jack Kirby in the back! My first Legion of Superheroes was #229 , the issue wrapping up the death of Chemical King. I bought that, myself. As luck would have it, we visited my grandparents soon after and my cousin (who lived a few miles from my grandparents' farm) had the preceding issue, with the death. My first first-issue? Isis #1 Prior to that, to the best of my recollection, every comic I read was from an established series. First Phantom.... #66 I had seen the character in Popeye Meets The Man Who Hated Laughter, on the ABC Saturday Superstar Movie, an anthology on Saturday morning, which mostly aired pilots for potential series (like The Brady Kids, Lassie's Rescue Rangers, etc) but had some that never went to series, like Lost in Space and Oliver and the Artful Dodger. the Popeye one featured most of the major King Features Syndicate comic strip characters, with Popeye leading the bunch. Phantom, Flash Gordon and Steve Canyon also appear, with the Phantom on the Skull Throne. I thought he was the coolest and the comic affirmed that. Sadly, I missed the enxt several issues, featuring Don Newton on art, though I eventually got to read the greatest single issue of that run, #70, The Mystery of the Mali Ibex.... The Phantom in a Bogart movie riff, featuring plot elements from Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, The African Queen and Treasure of the Sierra Madre. My first Star Wars.... This was my first Star Wars, period. Kenny had this and I read it. Then, I eventually got to see it, then got the novel, for my birthday. It was a while before I saw the rest of the adaptation, when I got The Marvel Illustrated Version of Star Wars, from Del Rey Books. That was a black and white reprint, in mass market paperback; but, it was all 6 issues. Previously, I only saw the first three, in that Special Edition and then singularly, in a Whitman 3-pack.

A hard question, given the circumstances under which I acquired comics as a kid. Nearly every comic in my collection up until I went off to college was either a gift, a hand-me-down, or bought from a thrift store. There was a period in 1968-70 that I've talked about before when I received an allowance and our local Piggly Wiggly carried a broad assortment of comics. So, while I can't remember my first purchase of DC titles* because I bought hem during my rather drug-and-alcohol-befogged collegiate days, I can cite the following as the first Marvels purchased with my very own money (and sorry, but I have neither the time, energy, nor inclination to track down cover shots):
Amazing Spider-Man #68 Avengers #59 Captain America #102 Captain Marvel #17 Daredevil #58 Doctor Strange #171 Fantastic Four #73 Incredible Hulk #122 Iron Man #9 Not Brand Echh #13 Sgt. Fury #72 Silver Surfer #4 Sub-Mariner #9 Thor #159 X-Men #60
* I can remember that my first Superman purchase was the 100-page #252, which I've often cited as my favorite comic of all time.
Cei-U! Now if you'd asked what were the first issues I'd read...

My first Avengers comic was West Coast Avengers #1, and by that I mean the mini-series. It was my introduction to all the characters (save for Iron Man, who's toy I had already acquired), and it was neat discovering them, and the story was pretty interesting too. However, it wouldnt be until years later when I got the mini-series in full , though I did get several issues of the ongoing series, and found it to be, at times, better than the main Avengers title.

Comics were always around, from as early as I can remember... mostly DC and Harvey... My mom would buy them for me, and soon aunts, uncles, and anyone who knew I loved them would pass them along to me... But the first one I bought, with my very own money was this one...

My first Star Wars comic was #7 I got it in one of those bagged 3-packs along with the next two issues. In this story arc Han teamed up with what appeared (to my young mind) to be analogs of Luke, Leia and Obi-Wan, and I remember thinking that they couldn't use those characters for some reason.

I bought Star Wars #1 off the spinner rack before I'd heard of the movie. I was turned off by the ugly Chaykin art and didn't buy anymore, not even after seeing the movie (which impressed me with its SFX but left me shaking my head at the terrible dialogue and acting). I have the whole run in electronic form but haven't gotten around to reading it, largely because of all the Infantino art, but I'll get to it someday.
Cei-U! I summon the low priority!
