I'm drinking rye whiskey (though I'm almost out and will have to switch to bourbon) and listening to Guy Clark. I'm not doing well. Merle Haggard and then Darwyn Cooke and then Guy Clark. It's like my favorite things are just going away. I feel you, but the art of Cooke and the music of Clark and Haggard aren't going away, they'll always be there. You won't get new stuff, but the body of work will always be there to enjoy. Toast them, mourn the loss, and revel in the legacy they left behind. -M

I listened to Merle for a week when he passed. I've pulled out a lot of Cooke's work to re-read...and ordered more. And I've been listening to Guy all day. I feel bad I never managed to see him live. Remember folks...Always trust your cape!

Looking forward to rereading my all-time favorite comic book, Lobster Johnson: Get the Lobster, tonight in celebration of the return of Lobster Johnson and Tonci Zonjic's art in Metal Monsters of Midtown tomorrow. I've been waiting for Tonci Zonjic to return to Lobster Johnson since August 2014, when Get the Lobster concluded, so this is maybe my most anticipated book ever. If it's anywhere near as good as the preview indicated, it's going to be amazing.

I've just come back from giving a talk on pseudoscience for Canada's first participation to the Pint of Science festival. It was a lot of fun, because of the great crowd! I think we all shared the appetite for wonder.

Getting ready to hide in the basement and binge as much of Game of Thrones Season 4 as I can tonight. My younger daughter is finally having her birthday party (her b-day is the middle of April), so my house will be full of 2nd & 3rd graders this evening; my wife and older daughter will be herding those little demon monkeys, so I am going to enjoy a couple of Dr. Peppers mixed with Bacardi Oakheart and graze on whatever pizza is left over.

Just finished steaks that I did on my pellet smoker. My grill died the other day and I have never done steaks on the smoker. They turned out good. Perfect medium rare. Though they didn't have quite the sear that I'd like.
They were done on mesquite, btw.

Watching a very tight third period of Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals in which my Penguins hold a very slight 1-0 lead with about 9 minutes to go.

Watching a very tight third period of Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals in which my Penguins hold a very slight 1-0 lead with about 9 minutes to go. And now I'm going to bed after my Pens scored the game-winning goal just 2:35 into overtime to take a 2-0 series lead. So glad they ended it early, as I was up early this morning to do some painting and I have another early day planned for tomorrow.

Watching Ali (Clay) - Liston I. Ali was absolutely beautiful to watch in the first round. And he simply had Liston befuddled in the first three rounds.
And holy crap the referee in this bout is an absolute bum.

And holy crap the referee in this bout is an absolute bum. ESPN had the final rounds of The Thriller in Manilla and The Rumble in the Jungle up on their main page, and I watched both of those to get a fix of classic Ali. -M
