Thought we could use an all purpose kaiju thread to discuss our favorite giant monsters. Not just Gojira and Toho movies but everything from Attack of the 50 Foot Woman to Gorgo and including movies, TV series, toy and comics. Looking forward to reading about people's favorites.

I love the idea of this genre, but have seen/read nothing. I do own the Godzilla Criterion, though.
Question, would stuff like Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus count?

I love the idea of this genre, but have seen/read nothing. Same here. I tried to watch the original Godzilla (yes, the "pure" Japanese version) and just couldn't get into it. I find the genre fascinating, though. Especially when you consider both the symbolic meaning of the anxieties these monsters represented and the lasting influence they've had upon our culture. I could easily draw a logic proof showing how Godzilla gave us the Power Rangers.

I once want to a bookstore and dropped $46.50 on a hardcover called "A Critical History and Filmography of Toho's Godzilla Series" by David Kalat.
I'm a fan.
I have an old Godzilla thread from a few months back. Maybe it could be merged in with this one.

When I was about 9 or 10 (mid-1970s), I was looking through the TV Guide to see what was showing in the way of monster movies over the weekend, and I came across a listing for King Kong vs. Godzilla. Just from the title, I decided it must be the best movie ever made!
I admit, the American version (the only version I've seen) is some very eccentric filmmaking, but all these years later, it's still a favorite of mine and I watch it every two or three years. The only other Godzilla movie that I still like enough to watch every once in a while is Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster ... and that one I usually watch the Japanese version.
Although I did watch Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster last year and I really enjoyed it. I saw that one in a theater (in New Castle, Indiana) when it first came out! The theater was packed! Good times!

I saw a few kaiju movies as a kid, mostly featuring Godzilla, but never got heavily into the genre. I was more interested in "mecha", a related genre of Japanese science fiction. The first anime I remember seeing was Eighth Man, and the second was Gigantor. I know that Astro Boy preceded them, but I didn't see it until a few years later. Ditto with Kimba the White Lion. I did enjoy Marvel's Godzilla comic, and apparently it had a significant effect on Tony Isabella - he's now the pastor of the First Church of Godzilla (Reform). tonyisabella.blogspot.com/2011/12/holiday-message-from-first-church-of.html

I'm a huge Kaiju Giant Monsters Fan, and a even bigger MechaGodzilla fan, myself - I watched over 40 Godzilla Films and my favorite movie is the Terror of MechaGodzilla back in 1975.
I'm new here and I also a big DC Comics and Marvel Fan myself - I've subscribe to a dealer that specialize in sending certain books and I read the following DC books: Aquaman, Superman Wonder Woman, and Justice League 3000. I'm thinking of getting Wonder Woman and potentially adding Secret Six to my mix of things.
For Marvel just Spiderman and occasionally Captain America.
Back to the Monsters, I have mixed feelings of Godzilla 2014 and I thought it was okay but it could had done better if Godzilla appeared more often and cut down the minutes of the film. I just don't know where to begin but I need to do more thinking in order to give it a fair review on this thread. My only beef about that movie that Godzilla looks too fat.
I will try to share more later on - I need to think more and I hope to come back in 2-3 days to go even further with this discussion.

So, are there certain companies to trust or avoid when it comes to these films? I know with anime it can be tricky (or at least it used to be) to find reputable releases.
Oh, and how are those current Godzilla comics? I saw Eric Powell penned some, and I do love me some Goon.

I consider myself a life long Godzilla fan but my first experience with the giant lizard wasn't the films it was a Godzilla toy that I had at a very young age. I remember I used to take it in the bathtub with me. Who needs a rubber ducky when you have the King of all monsters! Question, would stuff like Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus count? I haven't watch those films but I don't see why not. I would also count many of Ray Harryhausen's monsters like the giant octopus from It Came from Beneath the Sea, his Rhedosaurus from The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, the alien at the end of 20 Million Miles to Earth and the Kraken in Clash of the Titans although some purists may disagree with me there. I tried to watch the original Godzilla (yes, the "pure" Japanese version) and just couldn't get into it. Have you tried the Raymond Burr version? So, are there certain companies to trust or avoid when it comes to these films? I know with anime it can be tricky (or at least it used to be) to find reputable releases. Toho makes the Godzilla and Mothra movies and has probably made more kaiju movies than anyone else.

MechaGodzilla's - Top Ten Kaiju Giant Monsters
1. Godzilla, the King of the Monsters, the Raymond Burr film started my love of Godzilla. 2. King Ghidorah, the three headed monster - Scared the daylights of me! 3. Destoroyah, quite powerful and menacing too. 4. Space Godzilla, it's took Godzilla and Moguera to stop him - quite powerful indeed. 5. MegaGodzilla, my sentimental favorite - one of the most lethal robotic adversary for Godzilla. Note, I never really cared for MegaGodzilla 2 and 3. 6. Rodan, One of my favorites and with hurricane force winds from it's wings - packed a powerful punch. 7. Gigantis (or Anguirus), - Godzilla Raids Again is one of my sentimental favorite movie and featured this unique monster for Godzilla to attack. 8. Mothra, The colorful gigantic moth - always thrilled me and starred in many Godzilla movies. 9. Gigan, one of the most devastating monster around - and that buzz-saw on his chest means business! 10. King Caesar, In the original MegaGodzilla movie - it's took him and Godzilla to defeat MegaGodzilla.
I will try to share more on this thread ... it's one of my favorites!

Big fan of Ishirō Honda films and Rodan (1956) is one of my favorites. The production value is a huge leap from Gojira which came out just a few years prior.

I'm a big fan of War of the Gargantuas, if only for this:
