Batman & Santa Claus: Silent Knight #2Written by Jeff Parker Art by Michele Bandini Summary: Reeling from the Draug attack, Batman and family learn about Krampus from Santa Claus. Plot: While the dialog is still a little clunky and there is a ton of exposition dumped on us but the action is fun and the concept of Batman teaming up with Santa is fantastic. Parker really excels at the character moments and nails everyone's voices and the fun Christmas themes being explored are great but the sheer amount of exposition around Santa and Krampus really drags the book down at times bringing the fun to a grinding halt. I get that not everyone is aware of who Krampus is, so some background is necessary and if since Parker is making him the villain of the story he then needs a reason why Krampus and Santa parted ways but it all comes across as very heavy handed instead of a natural part of the story. Still and all it's a fun Christmas treat of a book and well worth getting. Art: Bandini, like a lot of artists, sometimes struggles with conveying Damian's age(there was a scene where I seriously thought it was Dick for some reason) but other than that the art is fun and fantastic. Grade:7/10

So I read the Faux-Simile Batman #428 and liked it. It’s been a while since I read “A Death in the Family” so it’s like reading Part 3 of a 4-part series without some of the added context that I’ve no doubt forgotten over the years. I may have to reread the whole thing now.
But I don’t think they should stop with this Faux-Simile Edition. They really should do a new Elseworlds that picks up after these alternate events. I want to see what Jason becomes when he wakes up from his coma…is Red Hood still his destiny?

Yeah, I picked this up too and while the difference between it and the original was pretty slim the possibility it opened was interesting.

Stopped by the lcs today to pick up a couple of weeks worth of stuff. Not all of this week's books were in my file yet (Space Usagi & Scarlett Couture were among the books from a distributor whose shipment had just arrived and they were checking in and processing them while I was there, so I'll get them next time I go in. Most of the week's stuff was already in my file though, even though it was only Tuesday. I got my copies of Conan #5 which came if later in the day after I was there last time, so I'd missed them, but I had read it via hoopla the night before. I'll give it a reread tonight most likely. There were a bunch of facsimile editions and revisits to the past among the books... some DC books... and some Indy stuff... plus some trades, OGN and oversized books... no Marvel this time (most of what I read from Marvel is via Unlimited so not surprising, only Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch are on my pulls and SW just ended). I'll be diving in to the pile later tonight. -M

Although Batman and Robin wrapped things up a little quickly the dangling threads of Man-Bat and Shush were interesting and I really enjoyed the quick pacing.

The guy who runs my comic shop suggested a few weeks ago that I might like Danger Street. So I bought Danger Street #12 yesterday. As I was only buying one other comic book yesterday - the latest Detective - I bought the first two issues of Danger Street.
Wow. What a great series! How did I miss this all year!?
I’m torn between reading the last issue now or waiting until I’ve read #3 through #11.

I read an interview with Tom King talking about Danger Street, and his remarks about First Issue Special #10 (with the Outsiders) made me think “Oh, I have to read that!” So I ordered it off eBay, and the same dealer offered Danger Street #3 and #4, so I bought those too.
I love the cover for #4. Lady Cop is awesome!

I love the cover for #4. Lady Cop is awesome! I've been getting Danger Street since it started and read the final issue last night. I liked a lot of it, but it's typical Tom King, lots of good ideas, some good character work, but problems sticking the landing leaving the ending less satisfying that the story leading up to it. Omega Men and Mister Miracle were the same way. Really liked both of those, and they were fun rides, but the endings leave a little to be desired. It's a failing I find in a lot of writers who grew up reading mainstream comics, since the stories never really have definitive endings, a lot of their stories just seem to stop when the allotted issues run out and half-ass resolutions instead of having satisfying conclusions. Danger Street was no different. -M

I don't think anyone else has mentioned it, so I'll just go with general thoughts here on Titans: Beast World . Yes, I'm buying another stupid crossover that will probably be disappointing... but its the TITANS.
So far the 1st two issues of the story are pretty decent, and builds quite alot off the current Titans arc... really it's a event because it's BIG.. instead of pretending the rest of the DCU is busy, they're adding them in. What's nice is the tie ins (which are all one-shots, so not disrupting any series), seem to be side things that aren't necessary, which is great because I'm not getting them.
I did also get Action Comics which as a back up feature that's a tie in... seemingly with a big of a Legion connection? That seems like it might be interesting after the event is over. They seem to be setting the stage to bring either bring the League back, or do something like Marvel did with Dark everything, but they wouldn't do that yet, would they? I guess we'll see.

I am picking up the Beast World mini (I only read #1 and liked it) but I am not getting all the ancillary one-shots and such. Again too many tie in for an event that should be told in the pages of the main book (I suspect a big reason why regular titles don't sell as well these days is that all the major stories that would have been in a main book once upon a time are cannibalized for events leaving the leftovers for the main books these days, and well not everyone likes leftovers. (Like ow good would the Avengers in the 70s have been in the Kang saga, Korvac saga, the Ultron stories, etc. had been spun off into events books and the pages filled with whatever happened to be left for Avengers stories. It pumps up sales for the events sure, but at what cost to the regular line of books. It's a minor issue in the scheme of things facing the industry, but you need to give readers a reason to want to read the regular titles, something more than fear of having a gap in your run. -M

I'm really hoping it sticks the landing and doesn't torpedo Nightwing too much as I love that book(except the current pirate story)

I'm very happy for it to torpedo the pirate story. That boat is screaming for a torpedo
