Well, crap. I figured there's no way it would be allowed so I barely even considered it. Seriously, that would have been one of my top three if I'd known... You can still change it.

On the tenth day of X-mas, Vertigo brought to me...I dunno...I'm not feeling rhymey today. Hellblazer Who would have thought that a small character in Swamp Thing would become the tent-pole for the Vertigo line. In particular the run by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon was one of the great runs of the time period. And it (Ennis' run) introduced one of my favorite characters of all time in Kit Ryan. Kit is, bar none, one of the best realized, three-dimensional characters in comics. And lots of people have said a lot more. So I'll move on.

Catching up...or catching fire. Hopefully not catching the flu.
Crossfire - I didn't expect that. I suspect I might like this. With Spiegle I'd definitely like the art.
Star Wars: Dark Times - I'm just really not a Star Wars fan. I've only ever read maybe the first dozen issues of the Marvel series.
Luba's Comics & Stories - I still don't get it.
Rose - I had forgotten about this one. I've only read it once. I think that I liked the art better than the story. But I should probably re-read it...along with all of Bone.
Jack Knight - Starman - I don't know that I realized this qualified. But I do love this book.
Betty Cooper - Have we seen Betty? I dunno. Are her stories really any different than the standard Archie story? Again...I dunno.
Robin - I hate the concept of kid sidekicks. So...nah!
Agents of Atlas - I didn't think of this either...but I do kind of think it works. I need to re-read this one too. It's kind of great.

Day 11/Selection #2: Batgirl (1969 series) First appearance: The Barbara Gordon Batgirl first appeared in Detective Comics #359, in the Batman story "The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl!" Favorite Spin-Off Series: Her own series "Batgirl", back-up feature starting in 1969 with Detective Comics #384-5, #388-9, #392-3, #396-7, #400-1 (w/Robin), #404-20. Loved Batgirl so I was overjoyed when she got her own feature in Detective Comics. Sure, these back-up stories were fairly simple; but for the first several installments, the Gil Kane-Murphy Anderson art elevated the thin storylines and made this series seem special. The series had a fast pace to it that I enjoyed, at least for the first several issues. I have many of these issues and I've read the entire series in the Batgirl Showcase volume and for me, the series goes downhill once Kane leaves. Still, Batgirl was a favorite character of mine and I was glad to see her get a chance to shine. Detective #384 Love Kane's perspectives; and the Kane/Anderson facework and textures Detective #392 - she gets a supporting cast in Jason Bard

I admit, I have a real soft spot for long-term, recurring supporting characters in comics (Alfred Pennyworth, J. Jonah Jameson, Jimmy Olsen, Jenet Klyburn, Stevie Hunter, etc...). Far too often, it feels like characters are created for a single series and tossed aside never to be seen again - I was just re-reading the 80's run of Blue Beetle, and Ted Kord has a pretty substantial supporting cast, but I don't think any of them have ever been seen outside of that series - either that, or you end up in a world where it's JUST people in costumes talking amongst themselves.
Jason Bard's long been a favourite of mine, and I like that he's become part of the landscape of Gotham City.
