My comics reading in October didn't turn out at all how I'd thought it would in some respects: I usually try to match the era of my comics, movies, music, tv, etc to the era of whatever book I'm reading at the time and as it happened some of the books I had lined up to read in October turned out to cover different times to what I'd expected. For example, I hadn't realised that William Hope Hodgson's The Night Land was published so early as 1912 - but by the time I noticed this I was already too involved to stop, so I tried to find something in comics, etc that at least approximated that era, which led me to Winsor McCay's Little Nemo. And then I started what I'd meant to be my 80s book for the month, Ramsey Campbell's Cold Print, but I'd forgotten that it was an anthology of stories that started in the early 60s - which led me to start reading the first few issues of Warren's Creepy and then jump to some Marvel horror mags ( Dracula Lives, Vampire Tales, Monsters Unleashed) when it got to the 70s. All this was a lot of fun - a pleasant surprise, in a way, since I hadn't been planning to read any comics from those two eras (1900s-1910s and 60s-70s) until quite some time in the future - but it did prevent me from reading the 21st century comics I'd been hoping to get to in October, so that's my one disappointment. I did finish Marc-Antoine Mathieu's Dieu en personne (2009) but that was it.

I have fallen away from comics so hard as of late. I miss them and really want to read and review, but I just don't seem to have the patience right now. Anxiety has been high, and the run-away success of the Youtube channel provides more instant gratification, even if it's often more hollow. I really want to get back into the swing of things soon; hopefully in November.

I thought I’d read no funnybooks this month, but then remembered I read Wagner & Jones’ new Dracula graphic novel. And I read the second volume of the Toth biography which certainly had comic art and did have one entire Hot Wheels story.
I’ll have to get them recorded.

I put everything on hold this month to binge read horror comics. No regrets, but now I have a bunch of unfinished runs to deal with.
