What Killraven really didn't need was a meeting with fake Marvel heroes. That episode was a distraction. (At least the Marvel Team-Up with Killraven and Spidey made some kind of sense).

Poor New Warriors.. even when THEY are the guest star they don't get to be on the cover. Incidently, the whole purpose of Acts of Vengeance was to have different characters on the cover! (Also, Driver's favorite event I bet, since he loves those unusual matchups!) They only appear on the last page of that issue as a surprise reveal, ala Wolverine in Hulk 180. Similarly, they are the centerpiece of the cover of the following issue

After she got her traditional costume back, DC still felt Wonder Woman needed a boost once in a while. For about a dozen issues in a row, with a different JLA member on the cover each time. Yeah. Wonder Woman got her powers back and had to be re-initiated 12 times. I’m trying to remember the number of male heroes who had to be re-initiated even once.

For as long as I can remember, there has been a void in my life shaped like a comic book featuring superhero Uri Geller. I had been reading Daredevil for about six issues and this came out. I had never heard of Uri Geller. I really like this era of Daredevil (The first Bullseye is two issues before this ) and I remember when I would reread all my issues, it would just come to a crashing halt with this issue.

I bet Uri Geller didn't see that coming...

I actually like this issue, though I agree it really doesn't have anything to do with Killraven and would have been better done with in another series. But I thought the concept was cool with the demonised versions of Marvel's superheroes and featured some very nice artwork by Keith Giffen. I always had the impression it was a fill-in issue that had been done some time previously and kept on hand for whenever it might be needed, and that was why it was so totally unconnected to the ongoing storyline and to the spirit of the McGregor/Russell Killraven in general.

I bet Uri Geller didn't see that coming... Maybe they should have done a later issue in which one of Daredevil's villains "debunks" Geller in superhero comic fashion:
"So Mr. Geller, I am told that you can bend spoons using only your head. As it happens, I possess precisely this same power: Yes, I too can bend spoons ...using only your head!" (hits Geller on head with spoon).

Your impression is 100% correct. At one point in the '70s, when a lot of writers and artists were disastrously casual about deadlines and readers screamed bloody murder if the company slapped a new cover on a reprint, Bill Mantlo was assigned to script a fill-in issue for every (non-reprint) Marvel title. This was one of them.
Cei-U! I summon the Golden Age of bad business practices!

I think you could argue that Blackhawk 228 was an attempt to salvage Blackhawk, which had been running since the 1940s and at DC since the mid-1950s. This was the only instance I can recall that there had been any acknowledgement that the Blackhawks existed in the DC super-hero universe. And the JLA disses them mercilessly! (The Blackhawks did later pop up in The Brave and the Bold with the Earth-Two Batman when the title was revived as a WW2 title in the 80s.) Superman showed up in the final new issue of Inferior Five in 1968. The next issue was a reprint issue in 1972. They were part of JLA #144 (July 1977), which also contains the likes of Congo Bill and Rex the Wonder Dog. Gotta keep those copyrights active!

Ah, yes, rberman, well done. One of the few JLA issues of that era that were re-readable! But where was Janu the Jungle Boy? Congo Bill wouldn't spring for his plane ticket, I guess...

Sorry, I need to comment on the tangent. I can move objects with the power of my mind. I do it all the time. My mind directs and coordinates my muscles to position my bones in such a way as to grasp the object (which may be hundreds of pounds in weight, if shaped favorably - pencils are only a meaningful challenge to "psychics"), and then again directs and coordinates my muscles to manipulate my skeletal structure to transport the object to the desired location. If you're going to give any thought to "moving crap with your mind", I find it extremely more satisfying to marvel at the capabilities of real life, than to indulge in fantasies about psychic forces that nobody has ever even described a plausible mechanism for, much less been able to employ to earn Randi's million dollars.

These covers probably weren't created to rescue the title, but I like their self-aware gratuitousness.

Speaking of Daredevil, that book did it from day one:

Is the answer to the cover question, "Poor dress sense?"

Stuff like this, on the covers (and interiors) is the main reason this book survived for 6 issues.... Granted, it started out as this...... It was a satire of old cheesecake sci-fi images; but, it never really developed a strong satiric edge to lift it above T&A and some light jokes and adventures.
