My favourite title was The Punisher, which ran for 30 issues. In addition to Punisher, we got an adaptation of the RoboCop film, and when that finished, the comic reprinted The ‘Nam, which was my first experience of a US war comic: I never saw most of the comics in this thread, but I had a few issues of this one. I remember a couple of the covers featured captions in questionable taste, such as "Takin' out the garbage" and "What's the last thing to go through a criminal's mind?" Most random was a William Tell Summer Special: The Starlogged blog says William Tell, based on Crossbow, had been announced as an ongoing fortnightly comic but was aborted at the last minute, after house ads had appeared. The already-completed strips were published in The Marvel Bumper Comic. An annual was published with new material and apparently a graphic novel collected the strips from TMBC, with leftover strips being published in the summer special. .

1993 didn’t seem as eventful as 1988-1992, but there were some one-shots and new titles. Like this one: Another holiday special: And a new title began, although it seems impossible to find out how many issues were published: 1994 will be interesting to post about (would you have liked a Conan notepad? Stay tuned…)

He's also an American in the Climax tv adaptation of Casino Royale: "Cardsharp" Jimmy Bond, of Combined Intelligence. Felix Leiter was switched to be a brit, in that.

1993 didn’t seem as eventful as 1988-1992, but there were some one-shots and new titles. Like this one: I've only just finished reading Road To Perdition last month but was blown away by the art, and I'm a big Who fan, and it's on Ebay for about £12 so when I get paid next month I'll have to get that.

1994 was the last full year in which Marvel UK operated as an entity. In 1995, Panini Comics, still going strong, took over the licence. In 1994, we got this, which ran for 7 issues: There was this: We got an X-Men comic, which ran until 1996: The most interesting title, not that I saw it on sale much, was this: As best as I can ascertain, only three issues of the above were published (who could have resisted a free Conan notepad?). Here’s a house ad: Three issues, eh? One UK reprint title ran for 18 issues (weekly, in 1975). Another ran for 93 issues between 1977 and 1985. So three issues seems really underwhelming. But I sure would have liked a Conan notepad. Here’s a Comic World article on the end of Marvel UK/transition to Panini: (I know it isn’t a very good image) So, that’s it. As my posts have hopefully shown, 1989-1994 was very eventful, surprising, unique and random. You were never at a loss for choice, and if superheroes weren’t your thing, there was plenty else. I’m open to any offers for anyone who wants to sell a Conan notepad…

We got a Star Trek: TNG comic, which ran for 24 issues until 1992. Oddly, it reprinted the DC series, so, perhaps not for the first time, a Marvel UK publication reprinted DC material (it also reprinted some Starlog features) I think the Masters of the Universe Summer Special, published in 1985, may have been the first.

I know nothing of this short-lived comic, I don’t recall seeing it anywhere: Finally, we come to Havoc, which ran for 9 issues. It reprinted strips such as Deathlok, Ghost Rider, RoboCop and Conan. Here’s one cover: I think someone must have been inspired by Havok and Wolverine - Meltdown, featuring James Dean as Havok and Sir Rhodes Boyson as Wolverine, but neither series reprinted that prestige format series. I bought the first issue of both, but found the stories were cut up into portions that were too short to read well. Downthetubes.net pointed out that if Meltdown hadn't been cancelled and had continued to feature Akira in eight page chunks, it would have taken them 26 years to finish it.

What happened in 1992? Well, there was a Captain Britain Summer Special, but I cannot find a cover. Oh well… There were also G.I. Joe Specials for the Spring and Summer. And I can’t seem to find covers for those, either. (Comics.org doesn’t have them) I think these are the missing covers:

The notepad seems to have had a cover that used images by BWS from Conan Saga - nice.

I like how it says the Hulk was the "star of the tv series" : I wonder what other shows the Hulk starred in during his acting career? Did he ever do Death of a Salesman or Richard III?
