Like the rest of you I'm still in shock over MDG. Thank you Crimebuster for reposting your interview with him. As we know MDG loved underground comix. He knew all about them and he was unfailingly generous in sharing his knowledge and love of them with us. Let's make him proud of us and post some great underground comix covers. (Can you believe we've not done this before? We did have an "underground" topic--but that was for scenes that took place underground!) This may be useful: Here's a link for basic info regarding Underground creators, titles, etc., on the Wikipedia pageThe Rules: - Post one, and only one, classic cover that fits the theme of the contest. - The cover must be from a published comic book or collected volume published before July 2014. - Please include the title and the issue number of the comic (e.g., Millie the Model #86) in case some posters cannot see your image. - Covers must be posted before voting begins. - Voting takes place on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, beginning at 12:01 am PST and ending at 11:59 am PST. - Vote by posting the name of the poster whose cover best fits the theme or that you simply like the most in bold.
- The winner of the contest is the entrant with the most votes after the voting period ends. - The winner chooses the theme for the next week's contest. - If you don't think the cover fits the theme, don't vote for it; please don't post disparaging remarks about it. - If a cover is more recent than the classic time frame, kindly point it out to the poster, who may then choose an alternate before voting begins. Since I already posted Trina Robbins' It Aint Me Babe a few weeks ago, this time I'm going with this one: Femme Noire #1 (1989, from Cat-Head Comics) I'm sure MDG was very familiar with this series and I'd like to think he would have relished this cover...as well as the covers you're all going to post.

ITS A DOG'S LIFE by Larry Todd (Last Gasp): This is one of my all-time favorite comics. If you haven't read it, you are missing out.

Bicentennial Gross-outs #1 and only, 1976 Ghu knows there are a lot of cool possibilities here. This one may not be a great cover, but it's a book that meant a lot to me back in the day, for reasons. It was a holy grail of mine for a while, and according to CGC mine is the only copy of the book they've ever slabbed. For what that's worth.

Marty and I would talk about undergrounds every now and then. The man knew it and loved it. We'd talk about books and small press stuff that would fall under the underground catagory. I'm in with one of the most famous and very NSFW book. California Comics #3 (1977)- Cover by Ed Watson {Spoiler: Click to show- NSFW Big Time}

Rand Holmes, perhaps my favorite Underground artist. Mine as well. Every cover was beautifully drawn with fantastic detail. I'm still trying to find a good copy of Harold Hedd #1. They're getting tougher and tougher to find.
