I tried looking up when word started hitting the fanzines about Now stiffing artists on payments and not returning artwork that hadn't been paid for. I remember reading a story in The Comics Journal, but couldn't seem to find it, going back to 1991. Their final regular publications were cover dated January of 1995, so it is looming on the horizon; but, I can't seem to pinpoint when word started to reach the public that they were in financial trouble. It was definitely before they ceased releasing titles. I believe the Speed Racer VHS releases factored into it, as well as trying to release on newsstands, which killed everyone who tried it. I want to say it emerged sometime between 1993 and the final slate of regular releases. They did put out another comic, later in 1995.
I haven't had time to sift through enough TCJ issues to nail it down.

Indeed, they are! It appears mycomicshop has placed the wrong issue with the incorrect months:    How or why mycomicshop is screwing that up is a mystery, but I will double check their dates from this point forward. |
