For your money, which single issue of any ongoing superhero series is the greatest? Maybe it had the most impact on comics, maybe it's just a great read, or perhaps it's your favourite for other reasons.
For this thread, let's focus on ongoing series (and their annuals) rather than limited series and one shots.

For me, it has to be Daredevil #181. I return to it time and again, and it impresses me in every way- writing, pacing, art, plot, colour and use of zip-a-tone, beautiful layouts, characters, etc. Watching the evolution of Miller and Janson's run was a brilliant thing, and this was the zenith. Once Miller was writing the series quickly evolved, and once Janson became finisher and colourist the series really stepped up artistically, with the two of them delivering much more mature work. For anyone that has just read it in the reprints, I recommend you track down an original- Marvel, in their infinite incompetence, tend to screw up the page order, which wastes the clever layouts that Miller matched together, spoiling the flow. (Plus, obviously, they did a simply horrendous recolouring job in the early 2000s, making the comics look much less 'gritty' and realistic than they did in the early 80s.) There was a lull in the stories that followed this, sadly, with Miller's last 9 or 10 issues not proving as exciting (though still good).

Thanks for sharing something new to me.

I've never read a superhero series to date where one issue had it all, either for the character, industry, or fan response. Several comics from a series? Undoubtedly, but not one issue, especially if one is talking about the Silver Age. In comic book conversations about this subject I've had in the past, I've found some believing a defining issue to be the same as a "greatest" single issue, but I see defining and greatest as two separate distinctions; the former can capture the heart of a concept, providing the why of a character unlike any story before it (e.g. The Amazing Spider-Man had a wealth of that from #39 - #140), while the latter can fall into a great creative peak not necessarily representing the essence of a character (similarly, for The Amazing Spider-Man, there's strong argument candidates for its greatest issue are also found from #39 - #140) .

It doesn't need to be perfect to be the best. Failing any single issue being either great or defining, is there a single issue you like to re-read because it's ended up as a favourite?

When I ask myself what issue have I read the most, I usually land on Avengers 4.

Here is a favorite, rather than "greatest". Sub-mariner #56. It was a one and done about aquatic aliens. It had a EC vibe with some of the best art Dan Adkins ever did. The art really awed me. Just look at this splash page!
