I try to re-read that run every year. I've read them all except the ones I just purchased. Going to read the whole O'Neil run straight through sometime hopefully this month.

One of the LCS around here has a giant warehouse, and they open it twice per year to the public. You could fill a long box (approximately 350 comics) for $225 (now since raised to $250), and I have probably done that at least 4 times (if not more), which works out to about $.71/comic when sales tax is factored in. It how I put together most of the long runs of Captain America, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, and Thor, as well as almost completing lesser-lengthed series like Defenders, Dr. Strange (both), Excalibur, MOKF, Power Man and Iron Fist, and TOD. I also picked up about 2/3 of the entire New Mutants series for $.20/book at Half-Price Books back in 2013. They were bundling five issues together for $1, which seemed ridiculous to not take advantage of. I've since completed the entire series, and it cost me less than $56 to do. I am jealous!! Only 1 comic shop in my city & a very small one, only bargain bin they ever have are for $1 comics. You sure got some bargains...Congrats!!

Nice pickups. I've been ordering from them for years and have never had a problem with them. Their packaging has always been great. I received an order from them the other day and to my suprise the way they package the books had changed and hard to believe it was an even sturdier method. They also bag and board EVERY book now instead of only the books that were a certain grade or higher. The only downside I noticed was that they put those sticker things on the front of the book now instead of the back and I couldn't for the life of me get all the sticker residue off because it was so sticky. Still...the only place I ever order books from and they are highly recommended.

I love Lone Star. My only beef is that their prices can be a little high, BUT! the care they take of their books, their grading, and the fact they automatically bag and board every single book now, no matter what, usually makes the price well worth it.

I love Lone Star. My only beef is that their prices can be a little high. As much as I've ordered comics in my lifetime, I've only bought something from Lone Star/MyComicShop once...and it cost a whopping $225. But prices were going crazy for the book at the time (and it still is high)...and I'm not sure if they knew but their buy-it-now price was at least $75 below all other prices on Ebay. So I nipped it...then flipped it when I got a $325 offer. Still have one other though. Got to love rare variants....

In my experience, when looking for books, Lone Star's prices have always been higher. BUT, with that price comes great care of the books, great strict grading, and trust that you are going to get books in great shape when you open the box.

Just went to a local show yesterday (in other words, dim & dank room in the back of a bowling alley, stuffed with boxes of comics and other nerds). Came away with about 65 comics, mostly from the 50 cent bins, a few $2 comics, and one splurge comic for $11. I got runs from Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty, Captain America & Falcon, John Byrne's Next Men, and about 20 issues of Excalibur that stretched my run up to #50 with a few missing issues after #29. All in all, a good haul. But I think next time I may wear my hat with the light in the brim. Sometimes it was really hard to see what you were looking at.

I've found that if you are buying books they are selling directly, their prices are in line if not slightly below what you will see them sell for elsewhere, but if you are buying consignment books, prices can be quite high (even higher than the price for the same book, same grade sold side by side with it form Lonestar itself. The difference is, the customer selling the book sets the price for consignment, not Lonestar, and oftentimes those customers have an inflated sense of what they can get for the book. Their price for low end books has risen over the last 4 years (minimum is not #1.35 where it was at about 80 cents in 2012 when I first stated using them, but it is still convenient to fill in holes in runs that they have in stock that I have been unable to find elsewhere at those prices. They are pretty much the only online seller I use for individual issues, and I have stopped using ebay (I did a long time ago) and have started frequenting their online auctions when I am looking for slightly higher end stuff (I am not in the market for really high end issues any more). -M

I wasn't buying books from them in 2012. And, yes, I agree. And I forgot that I am going off given book VALUE, not the price it's going for. But, I can usually find the same book on ebay (same quality) for cheaper, but ebay is ALWAYS a bigger risk. I buy from Lone Star when I do not want to deal with ebay. Which, depending upon my mood, can be quite often.

But, I can usually find the same book on ebay (same quality) for cheaper, but ebay is ALWAYS a bigger risk. I buy from Lone Star when I do not want to deal with ebay. Which, depending upon my mood, can be quite often. Well book value (if you are talking about Overstreet) is what a small group of brick and mortar dealers were selling the books for anywhere form 12-18 months ago, which worked fine in an era where the flow of information was much slower, but in the information/internet age, that information is practically useless. It also reflects the bias of the committee and not the preferences and proclivities of that actual buying market. But, for example, they were listing New Mutants 98 (1st Deadpool) as a $20-25 book when it was selling for $200-300 easily in high grade raw at shows and list books like Superman #75 as a $10 book when it sits in dollar bins in a lot of places. Also, their minimum price for any book regardless, is the cover price of a current comic book ($3 last I looked, but if cover price creeps up to $4 and $5 I'm guessing all books will list at a minimum of $4-5, even quarter and dollar bin fare. SO book value for me has come to have very little validity in the fluid market comic back issues have become, and the Overstreet methodology for me has lost a lot of its validity. -M
