The Wonder Woman origin in Wonder Woman #1 is one of my favorite comic book stories ever. I've read it a few times over the years in various reprints. And my library has the Wonder Woman Archives, Volume One, and I've checked it out a couple of times (I also love the first appearance of Doctor Poison in Sensation #2. And also that crazy story where Etta Candy and the Holliday Girls fall through a trap door and land on the roof of a careening subway car just as Steve Trevor is climbing out of the subway car to see what's going on. And Etta says: "Why, Steve! Small world, huh? Have some candy! Woo woo!"). Sometimes when I go to the library, I go into the section with the comic book stuff, pull out WW Archives, Volume One, and just read the Wonder Woman origin. So I saw an eBay auction for the Millennium Edition of Wonder Woman #1 and bid on it for $4. Then $6. Then up to $12. I did some research and found ridiculous prices for it on eBay. I decided it's something I've wanted for a while so I put a high bid on it. It's now at $13.38 so it's mine for now. The auction will be over in five or six hours. I've been rereading my Golden Age Wonder Woman Collection (The Chronicles TPBS, all three of them) as well. Great stuff, if a little Pre-Kirby (and hard to follow) in the storytelling department. But a giant kangaroo that leaps into space more than makes up for that.

I heard the WW Chronicles contained some redrawn panels due to war propaganda of the time...anyone know to what extent?

That Jimmy Olsen trade reprints the Kirby run from 133-141. I have those in comic book form except for the pricey Darkseid first appearance (# 134). I only paid 10 dollars for the four TPB's pictured. The guy was selling his comics to pay for his upcoming wedding. Edit* Holy rip-off , Batman. This lone panel is his only appearance in the entire book.

I heard the WW Chronicles contained some redrawn panels due to war propaganda of the time...anyone know to what extent? I dunno.. it's certainly possible. The first volume has a "This is pretty racist you guys" warning, the third volume doesn't (which suggest editing?) and I can't find the second volume any more.

The first volume has a "This is pretty racist you guys" warning, the third volume doesn't (which suggest editing?) and I can't find the second volume any more. In case anyone is interested, here is something I found on a message board discussing just a few changes made in the WW Chronicles book... " WW #1, page 3D, panels 4 and 5 - an African-American porter is depicted with stereotypical caricature and dialogue, very similar to the one that they modified in the story noted by Kulkulkan.
Pages 187 (Archives) and 140 (Chronicles). This one is like the other instance, the head of the porter is changed a bit (no blubber lips, less ink to indicate dark skin, rather letting the colouring do that) and the dialogue is rewritten slightly.
Archives: (panel 4): Etta: HEY, PORTER! WHERE'D YOU PUT MY SECOND SUITCASE? BRING IT HERE PRONTO! Porter: YAS'M! SUITCASE. COMIN' UP! (panel 5) Porter: DIS SUITCASE SHOW AM HEABY! MUST BE FULLA BOOKS! Diana: I'LL BET IT'S FULL OF CANDY!
Chronicles: (panel 4): Etta: HEY, PORTER! WHERE'D YOU PUT MY SECOND SUITCASE? BRING IT HERE PRONTO! Porter: YES MAM! SUITCASE, COMIN' UP! (panel 5) Porter: THIS SUITCASE IS HEAVY! MUST BE FULLA BOOKS! Diana: I'LL BET IT'S FULL OF CANDY!
And, for the sake of completeness, here's the dialogue changes from the scene initially identified, Sensation #8, page 7, panel 7 Pages 122 (Archives) and 172 (Chronicles).
Archives: (panel 7): Man on Stairs: AH'S SEEN SNAKES AN' PINK ELEPHANTS – BUT NEVAH BEFO' HAS AH SEED HUMAN LIGHTNIN'! Woman on Stairs: E-EEK! A GALLOPIN' GHOST!
Chronicles: (panel 7): Man on Stairs: I'VE SEEN SNAKES AN' PINK ELEPHANTS – BUT I'VE NEVER BEFORE SEEN HUMAN LIGHTNIN'! Woman on Stairs: E-EEK! A GALLOPIN' GHOST!"

Two pages in, and I an already chuckling. And the idea of monsters having attorneys is brilliant.

I've read the showcase books for GL and it needs color. They are in color. The Silver Age JLA Omnibus I bought recently just came out in trade paperback form & it contains around half of what is included in the Omnibus & the price at instocktrades is just around $10. Golden Age Superman & Silver Age Flash trade volumes come out in March & April. I plan on getting all of the trades as they come out.

Any Dennis the Menace fans?? I bought this great hardcover book that was released back in December, it contains a nice selection of the early comic book classics by Fred Toole and Al Wiseman. A volume #2 will be released as well.
