This just came in the mail this morning.... the last one that I needed to complete the series! As most collectors know, these are quite hard to come by in decent (5.0 or higher) condition.
What a lot of people don't know is that aside from the regular comic stories within, each issue contains a 1-page text story by none other than Wes Craven.... very early on in his career.

Love that series. I have, maybe three issues of it, including #1. I'd love to have the complete series. Congrats!

I did a want list thing at Lone Star, one item; the Shazam And The Shazam Family Annual with golden age reprints. It came in so I put that in my cart along with the similar Wonder Woman Annual with golden age contents. I have an even dozen of these DC old style books, I think they're swelligant! I'll never have the original Fawcett comics like I used to so these kinds of collections will have to suffice.

This just arrived this morning... Otherwise, this book wasn't necessarily a priority on my want-list - I still haven't gotten around to reading volume 1, but I stumbled across such a good deal (a little less than $14 total) that I couldn't pass it up.

Fresh out of the box: This is my modest order from Lone Star during their recent Thanksgiving sale. I rarely order anything from them, since their foreign shipping rates shot up in 2011 or 2012 or thereabouts, but there's three here that I've been wanting for a while, and the rather low prices on all of them plus the free book brought it down to a per item cost I was willing to pay (even so, the postage charges were actually more than the price of the books - that gives you an idea of what I have to deal with when purchasing stuff from the US and having it sent over).

Justice League of America #57I got this from a dear friend of mine that had an extra copy for me and I haven't read it yet and planning on doing that later today carefully and put it back in the bag with a cardboard backing. This book will be the 1st time that I read it and I'm really curious of how this story unfolds.

I think of this sort of overt political statement (tame as it seems today) to be something that entered comic books in the early 1970s, but this issue is at least as message-oriented as anything Denny O'Neil wrote later. The United Nations doesn't actually enter the story, but the JLA helps people of a variety of ethnic backgrounds, and discusses the need for racial harmony.

Stopping by my LCS this week to pick up a couple of new books, the full-time guy there told me that they had just priced and brought out a few new boxes of discount stock (not $1 books, but nothing more than $3). I picked through it and got the following:
Firestorm #32 - guest-starring The Phantom Stranger The Flash #343, 344, 346, and 348, which completes my collection of "The Trial of the Flash" storyline. Suicide Squad #35 - I needed this to finish the Apokolips story. There were more SS books, but I didn't want to go to crazy.
I also picked up Batman Showcase Presents volume #5, which is right before the one I got on Black Friday, for 50% off. I'm enjoying the late-60's/early-70's Batman stuff right now, and for half-off, the price couldn't be beat.
