The Goon is such a good comic. I think it may take a while to really grow on you though. It's pretty un focused, but after I got used to it I couldn't imagine The Goon as a linear plot involving the fight against the zombies. It goes off on it's own a lot, and that's what I like about it. That and the awesome artwork of course. I'm wondering though, if it was a little more focused if it would be more popular?

The non-sequential story was slightly difficult to get into, for instance when I previously experienced Goon in the Hellboy crossover the octopus seemed very well established so I expected to see more of them but so far they've yet to show up and I doubt now that they'll ever even be mentioned. That's not to say that's an actual flaw, I've grown to love the free flowing style of storytelling in the book but it was slightly jarring at first simply because it was different than any comic I had read previously.

I got my hands on some pretty wacky 70's horror/sci-fi books today and a few of them were real gems like a fing fang foom story by Jack Kirby. Gotta love flea markets.

Yeah that's pretty much how I feel. I started reading it I think in the late 20's of the previous (46 issue I think) run. I ALMOST dropped it twice because the story didn't seem to be progressing at any measurable rate, but the next issue would be entertaining enough to keep me around another month, until finally I got it, and now I love the whole series.

Strangely enough I've reached a stretch in the Goon (11-20) that has been pretty straight forward compared to the first ten issues. The randomness almost had me regret buying the bundle and now that it seems to be gone I really miss it.

The Goon is my favorite current comic, and probably top five all-time. I never really thought of it as unfocused, but that could just be because I like it so much.

Just read the Usagi Yojimbo Color Special, a collection of colorized versions of some of Sakai's great work to whet appetites for Usagi's return next month. Great stuff. Most of what I read of Usagi was real early stuff and you can see a marked evolution in the line art and storytelling, but it's still as good as ever. I need to get more of the trades and get caught up on what I've missed since Fantagraphics was putting this out -M

I really hope it gets back to some sort of regular release schedule. 43 issues in 15 years is not ideal.

I'd read the Fantagraphics color special way back in the day, but memories of it are fuzzy. But yeah the coloring here was superb.

No, I haven't bothered with FCBD in a while. I was interested in the Mouseguard book though. I got the hardcover one they put out a few years ago. I also think they had a 300 page Archie digest for free this year.

This one was hardcover as well, and it was pretty fun. I love how they do that, it makes for such a nice little book.
