July was a slow month for me, but I was also reading other stuff than comics. Better pace so far in August. I just read the first issue of Skottie Young's new Rocket Raccoon series and it was more fun than a..... -M

I think I may pick that up today when I go into the shop, I just saw Guardians of the Galaxy last night and could use another fix.

I fully agree with the barrel of monkeys assessment above, I picked up the first two issues and they were just as fun as the movie. I usually say that I don't care to have all the mystery explained but if this book uncovers how and why Rocket left Half World, I'd be cool with that.
I also fully enjoyed the new issue of Usagi Yojimbo, just a great day over all.

Read the first issue of the new Usagi mini-Senso. Set 20 years in Usagi's future, it was an interesting first issue. I am way behind on Usagi lore (some 20+ volumes of trades behind), but I was still able to follow along seamlessly and be sucked into the story. Great work by Sakai and the pages were almost newsprint like, so it was a great feeling read.
Also read the Shadow over Innsmouth one-shot featuring the Shadow in the town of Innsmouth and all the Lovecraft lore entailed with that. Great little twist on it, and a fun little cameo by a certai Howard Phillips...

I just read the first 5 issues of the Kamela Khan Ms. Marvel series. I got them from Randle-El as part of a CCE swap. The good: An excellent read, I get a very early Peter Parker vibe without it being derivative when reading-the young teen gets super-powers but still has to deal with life in high school and the powers change everything yet nothing at the same time kind of vibe, but the characters and situations feel fresh and intriguing. The bad: The arc concludes with issue #6 which I don't have The ugly: Doyle-the villain's main henchman-the way he is drawn he resembles Butthead (from Beavis and...) with a faux-hawk, just disturbing, stuff of bad late night Taco Bell nightmares disturbing...and the villain reveal on the last page of #5 makes Black Talon look like a chicken headed fashion-plate in comparison.... -M

Just cracked open and read Jim Starlin's Thanos: The Infinity Revelation OGN. I quite liked it. I thunk fans of Starlin's work will like it, those who aren't may find things to like in it, but those who are tired of Starlin's thematic fixations may not like it. I will say, he seems to have brought all those thematic explorations to a head, bringing things full circle, creating a new startig point for a new story cycle and wrapping up much of the old business. Many of the familiar faces are here-Eternity, Infinity, the Living Tribunal, Adam Warlock, Death, Drax, the Badoon, The Silver Surfer, the Annilhilators, et. al. but this is very much a Thanos story, with only Warlock really sharing the spotlight. It looks very much like this was intended to set up a new status quo for Adam Warlock and possibly a new series, so the stories of Starlin's dissatisfaction with the moratorium on Warlock and his "leaving" Marvel again have a little more context after reading this.
Not sure what Starlin has planned next aside from a fill in for Keith Giffen on the Infinity Man and the Forever People series (issue #3 coming out soon if I recall), but I hope someone picks up the htreads Starlin set up here with Warlock, preferably Starlin himself, but we will see.

I got some comic reading in today and yesterday. That will be about it for the week though. Read half of Fear Agent Library Edition volume 2 in one sitting.

I loved the new Big Guy and Rusty comic in DHP, what a great strip! And the new that Darrow has more work in the not too distant future, even better.

It was hilarious, the disconnect between the opening narration and the art will kill you.
Also, I'm only 11 panels into Batman: Red Rain...and I'm completely in love.

If I have any time off this week I'm going to have to check my math on my list. Not sure if I broke 800 or not, nothing's adding up anymore. I sometimes forget to add a count to one set of numbers or another.

Just finished a nice slow read of the Fade Out #1. I splurged and picked up the magazine sized variant with the mock-movie mag cover art, so I could enjoy the larger pages and panels and really savor Sean Phillips' art. Great start tot he series. Straight noir this time, no horror elements like Fatale. Hollywood, post WWII, and it has the feel just right. Really liked this and think this series is going to be one hell of a ride.

Ended the month with 74 comics read. A bit less than the last several months.
My favorite comic of the month was Fear Agent, which I've read all there is to read of as far as I know. New titles I've tried are Young Liars, Mind The Gap, Rat Queens, Silverfish, and Goddamn This War!
I'd say I was a bit disappointed with Goddamn This War! The art was fantastic, the use of color to illustrate depression was excellent. The thing seemed very authentic to me, not being a WW1 expert or anything. It was just a bit monotone. The entire thing was devoid of drama. It was a cold matter-of-fact retelling of the war from the perspective of a bitter veteran. I'd have liked the story to have had some highs and lows, a climax, something. But I wouldn't say it was the worst comic I have read this month either. If I had to choose one I suppose it would be Elflord, even though I love Barry Blair and plan to eventually read all of Elflord. It's just average quality Copper Age independent stuff.
