As things begin achieving a new kind of normal, we'll soon no longer be needing these threads. A few more days, maybe. Thanks for checking in on them, those of you who do.
1. Backup of the old site proceeds well but is moving slowly. Again, I encourage all of you to do your own backup using httrack as it automates the backup process and allows you to navigate the old site in off-line mode. Very convenient. I've now been downloading for over 24 hours and still don't have everything, so I encourage anyone waiting to the last minute to start.
2. IMPORTANT: As things are calming down, Hoosier X, mrp, and I are all hoping to do a lot less modding around here and hang out the way we used to. So, knowing that we won't be actively combing through threads each day, it's important to familiarize yourself with the post reporting tool. It is FAR more efficient to report a problematic post than to PM one of us about it.
Here's how to report a post:
1. Click the gear icon at the top left of the post in question.
2. Click "report post" on the dropdown menu.
(note: your dropdown menu will have less options than mine)
This notifies every staff member, both via board notification and e-mail. We can immediately check out the post in question and do something about it, whereas a pm to one of us is likely to sit for a few hours and may leave us with questions unless you provided a direct link.
3. The verdict is in! We will go with a stationary banner for the site, and will rotate which banner we use on a regular basis, seeking out members of this community to design new ones via a dedicated thread. I have found a piece of javascript I should be able to throw into the page design that will theoretically randomize which stationary banner you get each time you login. This will likely take some playing with. I hope to have it working by tomorrow night.
