Hop Harrigan joined up right after Pearl Harbor, and a lot of stories afterwards dealt with his time in training to become a fighter pilot. Lots of jargon explained and a real insight to the process. Hop was really pissed when he finished school, all ready to shoot up the JapaNazis when word came down he was to remain behind and become a trainer. He was pushed up, becoming both a fighter and a bomber pilot trainer, finally getting in to the real fighting in '44 and '45. The text features had him and Tank fighting Japanese directly after Pearl Harbor, so i consider most of those stories not in continuity (along with the radio show, and his movie (serial?))

An altered Monty Python also affects Saturday Night Live, as does an altered Mad (and its effect on Harvard/National Lampoon).

OOOHHH....
What If... instead of the Atlas Implosion, Marty Goodman decides to sell Atlas Comics to National? And on condition that he hire his cousin-in-law Stanley? What properties would they use? What books would Stan get? Would he be an editor?? What properties would Julius Schwartz revive???
A fave among fans... What if... Joe Maneely stayed in the train car and didn't die?
What if... Jack Schiff wasn't a dick and Jack stayed at National?
More to come??

Even the comics that were strictly one hero occasionally broke the mold. Blackhawk had solo stories for Chop-Chop, Superman had solo Lois Lane stories, Batman/Alfred (even though Robin might have been a better fit), All-Flash/Three Dimwits, ect. And in AA, Hop Harrigan appeared EVERYWHERE!

Started college in late August, living in a dorm for the first time. My creature comforts supplied by by scholarship, i was supplied with monies from my parents each week since my Dad had to retire and i was receiving SSI. Parents sent me $25.00 a week and a six block walk from the dorm was an actual Newsshop, carrying every single comic published (along with porn!)!!

Superman's front insignia is red on yellow. Why is his cape insignia yellow on yellow? Not an in-story reason. It just seems an odd design choice, yet it's persisted through many redesigns. In a few stories, the cape insignia was blue (when they even remembered to put it on there!) and then went to yellow/yellow.

Maybe...
Maneely would have worked from Kirby layouts for a while like so many other artists did back then?
Or possibly just become an inker (see also Sinnott, early Ayers, Roussos, ect)?
Or instead of a Thor, we would have gotten a new Black Knight with a similar origin (gimpy surgeon finds the Ebony Blade and becomes The Black Knight??)
Or...?

Remembering a neighbor down the street whose son was my younger brother's best friend. His older siblings had a large box of coverless Lois Lanes and Archies that i sat down one beautiful summer afternoon and read through. Probably explains my love for the Schaffenberger art.

In some of my indexing and Who's Who work, i make suppositions and connections and these occasionally (well, twice i can think of) get picked up as "canon" by those that are in the industry and end up in the comics themselves.

I break it down like this...
Early '39-'53 - Exclusively Earth-Two some overlap with Earth-Two and B '50-'60 - Exclusively Earth-B minor overlap with Earth-B and One '64-'86 Earth-One, with some overlap between Earth-One and Post-Crisis '86-2011 Earth-Post Crisis
Some stories happen on multiple Earths.

Several Arnold, MO drugstores (all gone)... B&R Comix (in the shadow of the Bevo Mill) gone... Mo's Comics & Stories (about three blocks away) large street sign was visible from several blocks away, using the Walt Disney's C&S font) gone "Steve's comic shop in Arnold" (sorry, can't remember the name)... gone Bob's Comics World in Kirkwood (the B of B&R broke up with his brother, skipped jr college to hang out there)... and one of the various hangers-on was a young Jim Lee, who brought in his pencils for his first issue of Alpha Flight and all i could think of was "boy, i hope the inker fixes up all those stupid scratchy lines..."... gone Second Story Comics in Kirkwood (on the same block as Bob's run by yet another Bob who opened his shop before he was 21 (got people older to sign all the paperwork)... gone, bought out by the local Fantasy Books chain (stores in St. Charles, Manchester and later in South St. Louis County, Fairview Heights, IL probably missing one or two) Comic Headquarters... on Telegraph near my present home and my last shop until i quit buying new books

June 1969
Action Comics #379 Amazing Spider-Man #76? Captain America #117 (digging the storyline, but the Colan artwork just didn't make it) Flash #190 (!!) Iron Man #17 (on the other hand, the story line was good enough, but dug the Tuska art!) Metal Men #39 (with the really freaky Sekowsky art) Showcase #84 X-Men #59 (and i probably won't see another copy of this with one exception until it starts reprinting old stories)
I really started paying attention to the stories and the artwork starting in this period. Adams blew my mind... really making me want to be an artist. I was just enthralled with Kane's Flash and the power in Tuska's work.

See Explanation Below... Action Comics #378 Anthro #6 Captain America #116 (Avengers crossover!) Incredible Hulk #118 (vs Sub-Mariner!!!) Iron Man #16 (!!!) Marvel Collectors Item Classic #22 (Man i love these quarter books!!!) Superboy #158 (this story freaked ME OUT!!! And I Love Brown/Wood!!!) Tomahawk #123 X-Men #58 (I will tell the story about this comic on the X-Men From The Beginning post when they get there!) Caveat for a couple of months/years... I was visiting a lot of flea markets at this time, so stuff i might have gotten there months or years later (probably pre-early teens) cloud my fading memories of when i originally got the books. Some of them are pretty bright in the memory, some i just didnt care that much about. When i was ten, while playing in someone's room (i really don't want to call him a friend, just a playmate so to speak) i broke off part of one of his models. He was pretty pissed and suggested that i pay him for a new one. Where in the hell was i going to get $1.20? So i came to the idea that i could give him 10 comics to make up for it. Nope, he said. Used comics are really cheap. He would only accept 1 cent for each comic. So i trundled home and took a paper shopping bag and stuffed it with 120 pre 1971 Marvels and DCs. Carried it back down the street and gave it to him. I didn't even get the broken model (some sort of dragster). Those books floated around the neighborhood, probably being destroyed in his horse barn using them to light fires (something he enjoyed doing). *sigh* -z So, how long did you remain friends with little Teddy Bundy? Probably until junior high... he would have been in high school and off to his drug addled future.
