Angel would be my second choice. I always thought he was cool and a visually beautiful character. I lost interest when they changed him to Archangel and have no idea which version he is now. I agree. They took a character who was already really cool and ruined him by trying to make him cool. Couldn't agree more, they basically destroyed the character in a desperate attempt to make him seem edgy and dangerous, as though hat's what he needed to be. He didn't. For the record: Archangel was eventually restored to his Angel form, but a later writer then decided he wasn't cool enough and made him Archangel again. He was killed off, resurrected as Angel but minus his memories (and with the weird delusion that he was actually a real angel), was eventually restored to his old self, and was then almost immediately made Archangel again, this time a near mindless killing machine controlled by Psylocke. He has since regained his mind but is still Archangel, as dark and brooding as ever. Somewhere along the way, the Beast brought versions of the original X-Men into the present from the past, including a young Angel who is now co-existing with Archangel. However, it was evidently felt that even one non messed up Warren Worthington was one too many, so he was later robbed of his original wings and given wings of fire by alien technology. So, we now have two versions of the character active, and neither version is really the Angel that Stan and Jack created.

Always loved winged characters. Hawkman (Golden Age Carter) is one of my favourite DC characters, and the Angel (NOT Archangel), Nighthawk (who really should be on the poll list) and Red Raven are three of my favourite Marvel characters. But I really had to vote for the Condor, one of the most underappreciated villains in comics.

I have read Golden Age. Loved Robinson's Starman, one of my favorite 90's series. The New Frontier has long been on my to-read list. And I think I have one random issue of Parobeck's JSA tucked in a long box somewhere. I should really track down the rest of that. Thanks for the suggestions, Prince Hal! I think the Parobeck JSA series is about to be reprinted. Worth picking up.

I think I've counted 52 publishers on the spreadsheet I use for US publishers, and another 38 on the one I use for British and European.

I've been lucky enough to have worked with or interviewed many of my heroes in the British comics industry over the years, and met several others through them or through the various magazines and sites I've worked for. That number includes Alan Moore, Pat Mills, Bryan Talbot, Garry Leach, Kevin O'Neill, Dez Skinn, James Robinson and Paul Cornell, and the late Brett Ewins.

Still love the original team, though the only series of theirs that I really enjoyed was the Gerber one, also enjoyed the Abnett/Lanning version, can't stand them since Bendis got his hands on them. I' particularly annoyed at the way Starlord and Rocket are now totally unrecognizable.

I don't see why you can't be both a collector and a reader. I am a collector. I have been since I was about ten. But I would never buy a book and not read it.

I am not interested in any version of the Defenders that does not include Nighthawk.

I'm still not sure what that even means... Well the bolded part is meaningless drivel, so it's not surprising. Oh, good. Glad it's not just me.

Steven Moffat didn't ruin Doctor Who, he rescued it from the drivel it had become under Russell T Davies. both Moffat and Davies equally excelled at progressing and helped the series, and both dragged it down via catering to sjw garbage, on occasion. I'm still not sure what that even means...

Well, I just showed the reveal to my daughter Emma, and she is massively excited, not just because it's a woman but because this will be the first Doctor she sees from the start (she started watching Capaldi halfway through his run, and has gone back and watched all of Smith and part of Tennant). As for the choice of it being a woman,my take on it is if they can tell good stories, the Doctor can be a potted plant for all I care. The folks who insist the Doctor has to be a man and who are going to boycott because of this may be missing great TV because of their small-mindedness, and that is too bad for them and for the industry overall. I myself am looking forward to this, as well as Moffat leaving, because while I loved Tennant and Smith, Capaldi left me a little cold to the series. This is about my opinion too... as summed up best by this comment I found: When talking about who ruined Doctor Who, "women" is the weirdest way of spelling "Stephen Moffat" I've ever seen. Steven Moffat didn't ruin Doctor Who, he rescued it from the drivel it had become under Russell T Davies.

I'm looking forward to Moffat leaving too, he started out alright when he came on but he was pretty stale these last few years and I think that ruined Capaldi's run which is a shame as I thought he was fantastic in the episodes where he had good writers. As for the new Doctor I have to say I'm pretty optimistic, it's a bold move and I hope it opens up the show for a new generation. I thought Capaldi's second and third seasons were fantastic, personally, the best the show has been in decades.

I think we may need to change the thread title. So, as the forum's resident aficionado of all things Whovian, what are your thoughts on the Doctor becoming a female? And, how is it going down with Who fandom generally, as far as you can see? I hated the idea at first, but now that it's happening I can't help thinking it might open up some interesting new avenues for the show. We'll see. As for the rest of fandom, I think "massively divided" sums it up best. Unsurprisingly, perhaps, most of the older fans on the more militant sites seem to be absolutely livid and threatening to boycott the show, but then, they've mostly been absolutely livid since at least 2010, sometimes 2005, and in a few cases 1981, so...

My earlist exposure to the Avengers was probably the Englehart run, starting around the beginning of the Avengers/Defenders war , so that era, and in particular the Celestial Madonna saga, has always been my favourite period of Avengers history (and the Swordsman still remains tied with the Vision as my favourite Avenger). I love the whole series up until about #300, but I think for me, the real golden era was probably #114-277. Other favourite storylines from that period would include the fall of Yellowjacket, the Nefaria three parter, the Doom/Attuma conflict and the Korvac saga.
