Today is Christopher Eccleston's birthday! However, having thought it over, I have decided to decline to take part in any celebration of the event...

The first book that came to mind was America vs. the Justice Society. Even though I have it in my collection, I can't foresee any circumstance in which I would voluntarily reread this dire title (unless, of course, Roy decides he needs me to write about it again, because money talks). Bad enough that it has all that muddy, poorly composed art but the plot is entirely nonsensical and the dialogue is Mr. T at his excruciatingly expository worst. Cei-U! I summon the turkey! It is absolutely horrible. I still rather like it. What's wrong with it? I'm a continuity freak, so it's really everything I could wish for...

The votes are in. Capturing first place this week is the debutante James with 4 votes. Snaring 3 votes each are bert, The Captain and Juggernaut. DubipR, Past Pot Paul, and foxley managed to pin down 2 votes apiece. And trapping 1 vote each are chickenpocket, Farrar, Slam Bradley, hondobrode and pinkfloydsound17. And 1 illegible vote was cast for Ed Hopper's illustration. (Your tallier requests that people not make a habit of this.) Illegible? Do you mean ineligible? Or did someone write their vote really untidily and send in a scan of it?

Not sure about Whirlwind, but Radioactive Man definitely did a recent stint in the Thunderbolts. The last time I remember seeing Whirlwind, he was trying to rape Jan van Dyke in Avengers #59 ( v.2). Whirlwind is still around, and has made a lot of appearances since then. He was last seen a few months ago in Astonishing Ant Man #10.

I'm going to say Karen Page. She was forever getting teary eyed over Matt, or Mike, or whoever else happened to be passing. The woman had serious problems, I think. She should have been on some heavy medication. I got pretty moisten-eyed myself during the Mike Murdoch era. Those were some bad, bad comics! Hey man, don't be so unhip-Mike was a real swinger, he was deeply groovy!

Why do Americans call braces "suspenders"? It's very odd. Braces are what you use to hold your trousers up instead of a belt; suspenders are what women use to hold their stockings up. For Americans, suspenders are what men hold their pants up with, braces go on teeth, and garter belts hold up a gal's stockings. We however can't come up with a country wide term for soft drinks or the evening meal. That varies about as much as Power Girl's costume has over the years. Oh, the evening meal thing is much the same here. It's either dinner, tea or supper depending on what part of the country you're from and, to an extent, whether you are upper class, middle class or working class.

As to Robin and Huntress, I believe Tellos said during Convergence that he took the characters at some point before their earths were destroyed by Crisis. So I'm presuming that when he restored the Earths that he created an alternate timeline where Crisis never happened. I'm actually willing to except any explanation because I'm just happy to have the characters back and, presumably, available for writers to use in the future. Problem is, we also saw an apparently post Crisis version of the Crimson Avenger, who'd been dead for years even before Crisis.

Is there a definitive point where the Silver Age J'onn J'onzz stopped being used primarily as a detective and shifted into the superhero genre instead, or was this more of a gradual evolution? I have a friend that once told me that when the Justice League of America was first created in Brave and the Bold #28; DC Editorial Board and Gardner Fox wanted a character that can replace Superman in the lineup - Gardner Fox liked Martian Manhunter in the House of Mystery Comic Books and made him even more powerful so that he can be use in the JLA as a Substitute Superman so when the popularity of JLA at that time and his prominence in the Justice League and he was the heart and soul of that group and been in every incarnation except the New 52 of which I stopped reading Justice League after that completely. That's is when he went from being a Detective and gradually worked his way into the Superhero Genre. I always considered him one of my favorites and without him in the Justice League is like having a Hot Dog without Mustard and a Peanut Butter Sandwich without Jam. This what I was told and I believe my friend in my heart. Martian Manhunter is the Heart and Soul of the Justice League without him ... it's doesn't seems right. He wasn't the heart and soul of the League in the Bronze Age. He didn't appear in the book from about 1970-1983, aside from a couple of guest shots.

Important Details:- Berto is near-invulnerable when in his energized form
You forgot to mention that Sam is "darn near invulnerable when (he's) blastin' ". But that's OK, because Sam reminds us of it every time he appears.

I agree the Doctor should be older. I really can't see him as a woman, though. I think they'll go younger; as Tennant and Smith seem to have been more popular, ratings wise, than Capaldi. Although I think Peter Capaldi suits the role better than those two. An older Doctor seems 'right' to me, but to the BBC it might be about getting a connection with the younger generation. As for a female Doctor, I hope it doesn't happen... but of course it's a conversation that crops up every time there's a regeneration. Ever since 1981, when JN-T used the idea to stir up press interest. Thanks for that, John...

Tennant, Smith, now Capaldi, three-four years seems to be the new max for actors' playing the Doctor. A far cry from the days of Pertwee and Tom Baker. If Chibnall really wants to be daring, cast a woman in the role. I know there's been a section of Who fandom that have been desiring this for years but I'm not sure if the BBC would let him. I do recall that one parody special with Rowan Atkinson that had a female Doctor played by Joanna Lumley if memory serves. But I do hope the Chibnall stays with an older Doctor instead of returning to the youngsters. Nothing wrong with them, but Capaldi brought back a Classic feel to the show with his demeanor and appearance which I appreciated. Thing is, three to four years has generally been the average for a Doctor, going all the way back to the sixties: Hartnell did three full seasons and a couple of stories in season four (1963-66), Troughton did slightly less than three full seasons (1966-1969), Davison did one story under three full seasons (1982-84), Colin Baker two full seasons plus one story (1984-86) and McCoy, three (1987-89). McGann did one story, Eccleston one season, and the most recent three Doctors will have each done three plus the odd Special. Pertwee and Tom Baker are the only Doctors in 54 years ever to have done more than three complete seasons, and both of them initially found it difficult to get work afterwards because they were too closely associated with the role. I agree the Doctor should be older. I really can't see him as a woman, though.
