The new Yellow Pages arrived today. It's almost a quarter of an inch thick. People who grew up in the Internet era probably don't think about how big and how important the Yellow Pages used to be. It was indispensable.
And my wife wonders how many people know what an E-ticket ride is.

How about the saying that so-and-so was "as queer as a three-dollar bill"? Back when it was used,"queer" meant off or odd, hence the comparison to the non-existent three-dollar bill. I think I remember reading it used in similar contexts, as in "That's queer," in the Hardy Boys and maybe some Golden Age comics, too. My grandparents had a copy of this book:

I had heard of the Shadow as a kid; I knew the phrase "who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men". But my first real exposure to the character was the DC comic by O'Neil and Kaluta in the summer of 1973, between my junior & senior years of high school. I loved it. The DC series went thru changes; three very different artists in two years - Kaluta, Frank Robbins and E.R. Cruz. Each change was initially jarring, but I thought all three did great work and did justice to the character.

When I was a kid, the person who was famous for having disappeared without a trace was Judge Crater. Now it's Jimmy Hoffa. I think people older that me knew who Judge Crater was, but to me he was just the guy who disappeared. I wonder if we've reached that point with Jimmy Hoffa - do young people today know who he was, or is he just "the guy who disappeared"?

Okay, my Tony Isabella signature story. I've been online-acquainted with Tony since the days when he had his own message board. I sent him a link to your post and he sent me this response, with his permission to post it here: I have no idea what he's talking about. Barb and I loved our time in Albuquerque. It was a wonderful convention. Our rental car was great, though it was a little scary when we drove up this mountain to get a view of the whole area. Our hotel room was great with the desk clerks giving us tips for restaurants and such.
If this guy had asked me specific questions about the issues, I would have happily answered them. I don't generally go into long stories about the comics I sign unless asked. A lot of fans just want a signature, not a routine. Though I do great routines with funny slices of my comics career and comics history in general.
But the bottom line is...I remember the convention very differently than he claims. I'm sorry if he was disappointed, but, without him asking even something as simple "How did you like writing this series?" or "What inspired your take on it?", I don't think I was under any obligation to go into the whole history of my work on the title.
Albuquerque is why I want to drive Route 66 from start to finish. The city made a real impression on me. Heck, a dear friend of mine lives there part of the year and I would love to back to spend some time with her.
You can post this to the group if you want.
TonySounds to me like you two were just out-of-sync that day, for whatever reason. I hope you get a chance to meet him again and have a better experience.

That would mean that the band doesn't have a bass player. Or Reggie has a six-string bass? Reggie's instrument looks acoustic.
