Speaking of NFL teams scoring 50+ points, tonight's MNF game featuring the Chiefs at the Rams was 54-51 with a minute and a half to go.

Yankees trade their top prospect and 2 other prospects to the Mariners for James Paxton. Hmm, last time they trades for a top starter from the AL West it worked out so well for them. And in 6 seasons, Paxton has missed significant time due to injury in five of them. So good trade for the Yanks, yeah. Maybe, I'm wrong, and maybe Paxton will thrive in the Bronx, but I think Cashmen is catering to the talk radio crown rather than making sound baseball decisions.

This season, it's like the XFL and Arena Football had a baby. I watched that Giants-Washington game on TV in glorious black-and-white. My beloved Jints score 41 and still lose by 31! I loved Homer Jones, who caught a 50-yard TD pass that day. I wore his number (45) as a linebacker (all 4'10'' of me) on my grammar school football team. My other big favorite back then was Joe Morrison, number 40. Washington's 72 points remain the most ever scored by one team in a regular season game. But the most ever scored was 73, by the Chicago Bears in the 1940 NFL championship game. (That 73-point differential is also the largest ever.) The team they defeated? Break out the irony... Washington.

I have (from Seattle) mixed feelings about the James Paxton to the Yankees. I don't know this going to help the Mariners and/or the Yankees ... time will tell.

The Yankees have only won 1 WS in the past 18 seasons despite having one of the highest payrolls every year during that stretch, while the Red Sox have won 4. Thing is, if the Yankees have even minimally above-average pitching, it should be enough due to their offensive prowess. They'll sign another FA pitcher or two this offseason, trade Sonny Gray for some useful parts, slug another 250+ HR and score 800+ runs next season, and challenge Boston for the division, and as long as their season ends after the Red Sox, all will be right in the Bronx. Personally, I hope this move blows up in their face, but I'm a Yankee-hater from way back, so I pretty much wish that for everything they do.

The more that I think about this -- and I'm thinking that you are right and the Yankees made a big mistake trading for Paxton. I'm a Yankee-hater too and I hope this trade will make them suffer miserably.

It just seems weird...I mean, with his health I wouldn't make that trade in a million years and I'm just a fantasy baseball manager so what is someone who does it for real doing it for?

Unbelievable ... The Dallas Cowboys defeated the New Orleans Saints 13-10 and the Cowboys held the Saints -- ZERO POINTS in the first half alone. I just can't believe this.
Saints had 170 Yards of Total Offense - Unheard of.

Awesome SEC title game between Alabama and Georgia.
Kirby Smart should be raked over the coals for that goofy fake punt late in the 4th.

Mariners and Mets make a big 7 player trade. Mariners send All Star Closer Edwin Diaz, Robinson Cano and $20 million to the Mets for Jay Bruce and 4 prospects-right-hander Justin Dunn, a first-rounder in 2016; outfielder Jarred Kelenic, the sixth overall pick in 2018; right-handed reliever Anthony Swarzak and right-hander pitcher Gerson Bautista. Mets are taking a huge risk on Cano being anything after an 80 game PED contract at 36 and signed for 5 more years, and gambling Diaz won't cost them a fortune once he hits arbitration next season and free agency soon after that. Brunce might not even start the season with the Mariners, as he was a salary dump by the Mets to make room for Cano's contract and Seattle might release or try to trade him elsewhere. The Mets new GM is trying to make a splash and compete in the wide open NL East next year, a division with no clear cut favorite at the moment, and that could shift seismically once free agency is done if one of the teams lands Harper or Machado (Phils are rumored to be heavy in on one or both of them). It's a good deal for the Mariners I think, especially with a lot of closer types available this year in free agency to replace Diaz.
