Seattle Sea Lions would be a pretty sweet name.

Lest we forget... Seattle had a pro hockey team, the metropolitans That's one of the early names being floated around. While I like the callback to the early Stanley Cup champions (they beat the Montreal Canadiens in 1917 as a member of the Pacific Coast Hockey League), there is already a "Mets" in MLB. I would rather see them come up with something unique, prederably tying into the area in Seattle or even the Pacific Northwest. Most of the names I've seen put out there are horrible, like Kraken, Saaquatch, Freeze, and Grunge (!?!?!?!?), but there are a couple of decent ones, such as Steelheads, Totems, Sea Lions, Pilots and Emeralds.

The Idaho Steelheads are the ECHL team in Boise. I suspect that the name won't be made available.

Seattle Sea Lions would be a pretty sweet name. I'm from Seattle, and I prefer this name myself.

No, the Mets wouldn't work any more. I just didn't want their notable accomplishment to go unremembered. Totems or Sea Lions would work for me, though Sea Lions might quickly be shortened to Lions. And it should be Sasquatches, right? Maybe they could go with Bigfeet instead. So long as it's not one of those collective noun nicknames. The Jazz? The Wild? The Lightning? Yuck.

Yeah, but I was thinking about how teams like the Golden Knights, Maple Leafs and Red Wings are referred to.

I remember the Seattle Pilots baseball team; they existed for one year, which happened to be the last year that I paid a lot of attention to baseball. After that year they became the Milwaukee Brewers. Sea Lions would go well with the Seattle Seahawks football team, but the fact that the Seahawks don't capitalize the "h" brings to mind this question: should it be "Sea Lions" or "Sealions"?

I believe Diego Segui was the only player to play for both the Pilots and the Mariners. And, he pitched in their first-ever games. He got a save for the Pilots in 1969 and started and took the loss for the M's in 1977, his 16th and final season in the majors. Of course he was known as the Ancient Mariner.

Maybe, maybe not. Penn State and Wisconsin are usually tough, and Nebraska will be on the rise now that Scott Frost has his feet under him and will be putting his guys on the roster instead of working with what his predecessor left him. And never forget that THE Ohio State University has a lot of prestige. The team wasn't exactly a dumpster fire before Meyer got there, so it's not like they are some flash in the pan that was dependent on the coach for their success. I know that Ryan Day is supposed to be the next big offensive guru and I’ll certainly give him credit for Haskins’ dramatic improvement as this season carried on...but the next Urban Meyer he ain’t. Wisconsin and Penn State just sort of bleed together in the division. Quality programs but clearly not on par with the Buckeyes and Wolverines. I hated Frost when he played for the Jets but I think he’s a quality coach. Still, it’s going to take at least another 2-3 recruiting classes before Nebraska is ready to hang with the big boys IMO. With that being said, if Michigan doesn’t make the final four playoff next year, much less win the Big 10...then you have to consider Harbaugh’s tenure there a MASSIVE disappointment. So is Meyer going to take another year off, then take another job with a big time program because his health is better, stay for 6 or 7 years and then retire for health reasons again when all the dirt form his program starts to leak out and he can't cover it up anymore and the cloud of suspicion hangs over the program threatening to tarnish his image? He's done it twice now, third time is the charm. Meyer does whatever it takes to win, legal, ethical or not and surrounds himself with plausible deniability until it starts to catch up with him and then leaves town. He may be a hell of a football coach, but his hardly someone to admire or aspire to. -M

Everyone was ready to run Brian Kelly out of town until this season. At the end of the day, Meyer is a piece of shit who would employ a terrorist on his staff if it helped him win games... But there’s no denying that he’s a great football coach. And those guys always find work. High level work at that.

Red Sox reportedly re-sign World Series hero Nathan Eovaldi for 4 years $67.5 million. I like this move for a lot of reasons. It gives them some flexibility if Kimbrel and Kelly sign elsewhere and they don't add bullpen arms, it gives them a deep rotation for the upcoming 162 game season and a flexible arm in October if thy make the post-season again, and it gives them rotation insurance after the 2019 season when both Sale and Porcello are free agents. Plus it keep Eovaldi away from the Astros and Yankees who were courting him. It's also strike two for the Yanks attempts to sign big name pitchers-Corbin chose the Nats and Eovaldi the Sox. Who intheir right mind wants to sign with the Yanks and throw to Gary Sanchez? He's the albatross around the Yanks pitching staff's neck.
