As well as his work for Charisma, Snyder runs a prepper website called The Economic Collapse and has written a few books, including "The Rapture Verdict," which allows readers to be on the "cutting edge of what God is doing in these last days"; a prepper handbook called "Get Prepared Now"; and a novel set in a post-apocalyptic "near future" containing "explosive truths" that "could literally change the world." In the lead-up to the 2016 election, Snyder called Hillary Clinton a modern-day Jezebel and insisted that the election was God's "final test" for America. In October, he warned that the "elite" might launch an attack on Donald Trump and his family and blame it on a lone wolf, or create a "false flag" event or "some type of event so that they can cancel or suspend the election.(...) In April, Snyder took to Charisma to warn of a vision that he said a nine-year-old boy had seen of an asteroid hitting the Atlantic Ocean followed by a nuclear war. "Yes," he wrote, "the most challenging times in all of human history are coming. But for the people of God it will be the greatest chapter of all as multitudes come into the Kingdom even in the midst of all the shaking." Just yesterday, Snyder wondered if an injured bald eagle found in Washington was sent by God as a warning about things like government regulations destroying American freedoms. It's good to be reminded that not all crazy religious fanatics belong to the same religion. We are offered a lot of narratives, nowadays, dividing the population in just two camps (along religious, ethnic, political or other lines). One I see developing is "crazies vs non-crazies". Crazy religion, crazy pseudoscience, crazy skin colour divisions, crazy economics... they all sap the rational bedrock on which our post-enlightenment societies were built. To paraphrase Robert Howard: "Craziness is the natural state of mankind. Rationality is unnatural. It is a whim of circumstance. And craziness must always ultimately triumph."

Slam_Bradley , as an Idahoan, you probably know about this guy I read about today in Charles Pierce's column, but in case you didn't... Let's skip on up to Idaho and check out the manner of congressional candidate with whom the unsuppressed voters of that state have been blessed. Step on up, Michael Snyder. And what do you have to perform for us today? From Right Wing Watch: As well as his work for Charisma, Snyder runs a prepper website called The Economic Collapse and has written a few books, including "The Rapture Verdict," which allows readers to be on the "cutting edge of what God is doing in these last days"; a prepper handbook called "Get Prepared Now"; and a novel set in a post-apocalyptic "near future" containing "explosive truths" that "could literally change the world." In the lead-up to the 2016 election, Snyder called Hillary Clinton a modern-day Jezebel and insisted that the election was God's "final test" for America. In October, he warned that the "elite" might launch an attack on Donald Trump and his family and blame it on a lone wolf, or create a "false flag" event or "some type of event so that they can cancel or suspend the election.Everybody should have the chance to run for something. It's one of the glories of democracy. But guys that believe they have 'explosive truths that could literally change the world' at least should be required to put those truths in their campaign spots. It's only fair. In April, Snyder took to Charisma to warn of a vision that he said a nine-year-old boy had seen of an asteroid hitting the Atlantic Ocean followed by a nuclear war. "Yes," he wrote, "the most challenging times in all of human history are coming. But for the people of God it will be the greatest chapter of all as multitudes come into the Kingdom even in the midst of all the shaking." Just yesterday, Snyder wondered if an injured bald eagle found in Washington was sent by God as a warning about things like government regulations destroying American freedoms.Wait. There's going to be a nuclear war after the asteroid hits? Who's going to launch it? Bacteria? And the idea that God is randomly snuffing bald eagles because of the EPA shakes my faith with a great shaking, indeed. I actually wasn't familiar with him. But I know his type. Lot of doomsday preppers here. It's actually a part of the LDS doctrine. Now I'm guessing this guy isn't Mormon, because they're usually more circumspect about it than he is. That said, I suspect he's not going to gain a huge amount of traction. There are already two current or recent members of of the Idaho legislature and a former state Lt. Governor in the race.

Just yesterday, Snyder wondered if an injured bald eagle found in Washington was sent by God as a warning about things like government regulations destroying American freedoms. Seems entirely logical - anyone suggesting that, conversely, it could have been caused by weakened environmental protections is clearly both ungodly and un'merkin

I don't understand the reactions to this story at all. I mean, I know times are tough in Houston I was in Jersey during Sandy...but even if you're just taking food that is definitely still looting, there's no grey area about that.

The good thing about having a belief system based on stuff that's made up, is that you can interpret whatever you want, to make it say whatever you want it to say.

I'm not really sure why this is being described as overly insensitive and offensive...

I'm not really sure why this is being described as overly insensitive and offensive... I know. Isn't it the progressive sjw's who are supposed to be so easily hurt? And Politico has apparently taken this down from its site.

I'm not really sure why this is being described as overly insensitive and offensive... It's offensive in the same way that caricaturing Bill Clinton having an affair in the Oval office is offensive. Truth hurts. Ironically, I just read that Congress was working on a law that would have cut a billion dollars to disaster relief (to free money to build the wall) right before Harvey. I guess that won't come to pass, now. Thankfully!

Not so sure about that.
Hopefully Harvey diverts funds from the wall, but I wouldn't bet on it.
I was thinking the same thing about Texas secession but know that the Federales have helped they're whistling a different tune.

The Texas secessionists never seem to factor in things like there are 31 military bases in Texas that no longer exist if they secede. The Johnson Space Center goes away. All funding for the Gulf Coast and its maintenance. Etc. Etc.
They aren't deep thinkers.

I think the coverage of Katrina by the So-Called Liberal Media very clearly defined this issue. If black people are doing it, it's looting. If white people are doing it, it's foraging.

I think the coverage of Katrina by the So-Called Liberal Media very clearly defined this issue. If black people are doing it, it's looting. If white people are doing it, it's foraging. That may have been the case for Katrina, but during Sandy in New Jersey it was called looting and it was equal opertunity in the news so I'm not sure if it's a valid critique.

If it's food, it should be called 'surviving'.

I'm not really sure why this is being described as overly insensitive and offensive... I honestly don't get why either side would be offended or think this is a "gotcha" moment. The Bible says itself that God can use men to do his will. If one side believes it's God saving them, then how is the Red Cross, National Guard, other military, civilian responders and other people volunteering not angels to the people they rescue if that's what they wish to believe? To be perfectly honest anyone using this tradegy for a political pot shot, no matter who they are, should be questioning how they could better use their time.
