How is kneeling during the national anthem a sign of disrespect to either the flag, the country or the veterans?
Taking a dump on the flag or setting fire to it, yeah, that would be disrespectful. Turning one's back to it, that would be disrespectful. (Still allowed by the constitution that the flag stands for, but disrespectful). But kneeling? I view it as praying that the country live up to its calling, to what it is meant to be, and to the dream that it represents. It's not a renunciation of the flag; it's a call for its help.
The president attacking the protesters by calling them unpatriotic is exactly the same game that Erdogan plays in Turkey... anyone who disagrees with him must hate the country. It is unfortunate that so many people share this view, buying into the kind of divisive politics that says "my country right or wrong".

In fact I never once stood or said the national anthem through out my entire schooling because I was raised a Jehovah's Witness, and no one every made an issue of it. I think this little issue is just another Sign O' the Times, as Prince would say.

A sad realization is the fact that the people who are upset about the athletes kneeling either do not understand or do not care that this "respect mah flag sort else!" stuff is wholly un-American and is utterly opposite to American values. More likely, though, it's both. They don't realize and they literally don't care if they do. One of the sadder realizations I've made on this journey that is adulthood is that quite a lot of people are not acting in good faith. It's disheartening.

In this day and age the First Lady has political power. If she didn't, she would not be associated with any causes whatsoever. And in an increasingly contentious time, virtually any cause can be viewed as a means to a political or ideological end. Pushing an end to cyber-bullying and the importance of reading as a representative of a belligerent, authoritarian, willfully ignorant, anti-intellectual adminsitration like this is just one more hypocrisy in a White House that has become the proverbial whitened sepulchre.
Look at the absolute grief Michele Obama got for being behind the controversial, divisive issues of good food and exercise for kids. But at least she wasn't supporting something she and the members of her own family didn't subscribe to in their private lives.
Back in the 60's, Lady Bird Johnson stood behind the crusade to end littering. Today she would have been criticized for being a tree-hugger who was putting street-sweepers out of business.
And of course, once more, the real snowflakes are upset by football players kneeling and a librarian dissing the First Lady. Because priorities.

Way too soon to talk about gun control.
Stick with thoughts and prayers.

So, do we think maybe finally after 58 dead and hundreds more wounded in the biggest gunman massacre in US history ?
horrible horrible horrible
Guns like this should be outlawed. It's not the perfect solution, but it's a step in the right direction.
Thank God he didn't have a silencer on it.

Comforting. Just like the airquotes president's "warmest condolences" and Biblical citations. So believable.

Exactly
From the Idiot-in-Chief : "My warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families of the terrible Las Vegas shooting. God bless you !"
Warmest condolences is awkward. Condolences fine, but warmest is not correct.
God bless you - I know what he means but how he said it is just awkward.
I know I'm sounding nit-picky and I'm not trying to sound partisan, it just doesn't sound very presidential.
Maybe without having a filter by using Twitter it helps America see what they really elected.

ABSOLUTELY! You'd think that at least his speechwriters could get it right. The problem is that expectations are so low that when he does something like this without spewing flecks of saliva all over the place, everybody, even the so-called liberal, fake-news, failing MSM, acts like he's Lincoln at Gettysburg. Maybe it's an attept at self-reassurance.

Almost everything about this administration is like something out of Bizarro world.
Nothing, and I mean nothing, would surprise me anymore or be beyond what I could consider actually happening.
What's he going to offer to prevent this from happening again ?
You know, the Law & Order president

Oh, but then that was an anti-NRA, false-flag, government-run operation masterminded by an illegitimate president using actors to portray dozens of dead children and their parents.

Did this guy just acquire all of these guns legally? If so, that is really disturbing.

My sympathies to our American neighbours. This violence should not be tolerated, and the industry that makes it so easy should not profit from it. As for the politicians, on both sides of the aisle, who will say "Las Vegas is in our prayers" but take the NRA's money, I have this to say: stop expecting God to do your job for you and start doing something.

So ummm...you all ready for the news outlets to dramatize the Vegas event into a ratings/money making spectacle?
You know the simple formula of Fear = ratings = money. News media gotta eat too doe. "Ethics? Psssh...cash money holmes".
