This Thursday is the last day my home will have internet access. I've had Verizon fios for the last 6 years without complaint but it's risen in price too much ( 95 dollars) and everyone in the home spends too much time surfing. I have internet access from my cell phone but after a certain amount of gigs, it slows down. I'll have to manage posting on here by going to the library or other places that have free wifi. Did you check with Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable)? They sometimes have good package deals.

Maybe I will check but there's another reason beyond cost for halting service, my son is addicted to gaming and we need to light a fire under his butt to get a job. We are going to give it a try for now to live without wifi in the home. There's plenty of free wifi places to do my CCF stuff.

Roquefort Raider ... I would suggest New England Area and whatever you decide it would be a treat. I'm awaiting an email --- due to my Club and then have dinner soon. Anyway, enjoy your trip!

Had a forced day off yesterday thank to a motor vehicle accident on the way in to work. Sitting at a stop light and was rear ended wiping out the back end, bumper, right passenger rear side of the car/wheel well with the wheel itself ending up bowed outward and pushed into the well. Thankful no injuries to me or the other driver. Spent 1 hour with police as they tested the driver who hit me for all sorts of stuff. He claimed to have fallen asleep at the wheel (at 5am) on the way to work when he hit me. Tested negative for alcohol, marijuana or other substances.
Of course he had no insurance. Been unemployed the last 9 months and this is his 1st week on a job and he chooses to drive without insurance figuring he could wait 2 weeks until his 1st check. Not sure what all the police sited him for but after telling the police he was going to have the car towed, once they left he changed his front flat tire and drove off. And here is why my anger goes up: everyone drives without insurance and city police do nothing about preventing it other than to giving out tickets. This idiot just hit me and then goes right back out on the road with another chance to hit another driver. AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH.
Another gripe: insurance companies outsourcing all of their work. Called immediately to file my claim, and the lady taking the information was nice enough but couldn't get any of the information correct and taking forever because she was looking everything up on the internet. Gave her exact street address of accident and when she sets up for Rental car and provides me information it is in Tempe, not Peoria. When she is arranging for a tow truck chooses company they use out in Gilbert (as far east of the west side where the accident occurred) so had to cancel and re-enter. Accident happened at 5am, with police til 6am and then waiting with my car until tow arrives at 9:30AM. Tow driver says I am his 1st call of the morning (so what took so damn long?!?). Insurance representative calls while I am at Rental shop at 10am and leaves message to return the call. I call 10 minutes later once finished at Rental and guess what? The message I receive is the Insurance Rep is already gone for the day and is in India.
Insurance adjuster calls me around 5:00pm and says can't come to see the car until tomorrow and am I available to be there around 11am? Tell him no I will be at work and why would I need to be there? He states that he doesn't like to view and make recommendations without discussing with the owner. Since when is this occurring? Been in 4 accidents during my 40 years of driving ( 1 for every 10 years, wow) and the adjusters have NEVER involved me and dealt directly with the insurance company. So sit today and wait for calls on what the adjuster recommends and go forward from there. Oh yay. Another day of life in the city.

Sorry, brutalis. What a bad day. We now have a society that employs incompetent people in almost every position. I guess you get what you pay for , now that salaries aren't what they used to be.

Sounds like something out of a nightmare, brutalis! I am really surprised the cops would let the other guy drive off. Here it is illegal to drive without insurance; the fellow would have been fined and his car impounded. We went through a lot of hassle with our insurance company over a broken side view mirror last summer. I agree that between the assessor (two meetings), the insurance company (two phone calls) and the repair shop (three visits), the current way things are done waste a tremendous amount of time and cause a lot of aggravation.

I agree that between the assessor (two meetings), the insurance company (two phone calls) and the repair shop (three visits), the current way things are done waste a tremendous amount of time and cause a lot of aggravation. Illegal here as well to drive without insurance. Talked last night with my cousin who is a police officer and it amounts to a song and dance. Basically amounts to if the officers involved want to take the time and effort (which in my case it was the end of shift) to do their job. My cousin says MOST won't impound the car and leave it all to the insurance companies to deal with DMV to tag the registration/license but until that is done the police won't impound. And even that won't prevent people from driving without any insurance as they simply have to "provide" current proof which means they go in and pay for a month of insurance and then cancel or drop the coverage to continue driving. Why it isn't law to suspend/revoke the driver license is beyond understanding. And it is aggravating and irritating as all get out wasting time. The folks I dealt with over the phone were more than polite and nice enough, but it's impossibly difficult to provide a service from another location to someone. All to save a few dollars in employment that really isn't saved in the end cost.

So sorry to hear this Brutalis.
I was in two accidents the 6 years I lived in Los Angeles, neither one of them my fault.
The first I was in the left hand turning lane at a red light. These kids, 4 boys, were in a sedan going too fast. I saw them in the back window coming up on me. I was pinned in and couldn't move. The driver's hands leave the wheel to cover his fast before impact. Too late he realizes his brakes don't work.
No insurance.
Nothing happened. MY insurance had to cover it.
Second time I'm on my way home, going through a 4 way intersection with a yellow light. There was a van going to turn left in front of me. I had the right of way. He misjudged and t-boned me wrecking my Corolla. I call the police immediately. They come and he has a fit saying he lives in the van and has no insurance and if they do anything he'll be in Mexico the next day.
The cops through their hands up in the air and refuse to do anything. "Your insurance company will handle everything."
Worthless
I know how you feel buddy.
I remember reading a few years back that 1/3 drivers have no insurance.
smh

I'm stunned to read that too ... 1/3 of the American Drivers do not carry insurance and I just in total loss of words regarding your latest run in here Brutalis and I do echo hondobrode and Raider's comments here.

So if you get into an accident (your fault) and you're driving without insurance you only get a ticket?! You should lose your license for that! and brutalis, it sounds like you need a new insurance company. I've got GEICO, and I've only had to call them once (due to a flat tire) and they were great. They had a truck out there to fix my flat in a very reasonable amount of time.

If you're driving without insurance when it is required...it's a fairly safe bet you're going to drive without a license if it's revoked.

If you're driving without insurance when it is required...it's a fairly safe bet you're going to drive without a license if it's revoked. Spot on with this assessment. There was one person around Pittsburgh who was still driving after 14 DUIs and having their license revoked years prior. The police and courts just kept writing tickets and fining them, and they kept getting their hands on vehicles and driving while drunk.

My BF is in Seattle dealing with tax stuff and attending a funeral and things are up in the air just now for me, but I might be away again for as long as over a month, unless we get some better internet connection in Oregon than centurylink which keeps crapping out, along with the electricity as well sometimes, but that's usually storm related. He gets back later tomorrow and then we plan out the next month or so. So I might be suddenly busy/silent again for quite awhile. No worries.

Maybe you can use the WiFi in places like libraries and eateries that offer the service.
