Wrote a $1400 check to the State to "celebrate" tax day. Would have taken a bath from the Feds too if I hadn't had two kids in college at least part of the year. Yay for that "tax cut."
Anyone I've talked to about the difference in their taxes has ended up paying more or getting less back this year. Yep, got back several hundred dollars less than last year, but my withholding from my paycheck decreased as well, so probably a wash. We do our own taxes, but they aren't that complicated. This year we didn't even have to itemize for property taxes, mortgage interest, etc, because the individual deduction went up to $12,000 per person. Overall, I wouldn't mind paying the taxes as much if the gov't wasn't so bad with the money.

My dad, who had an Associates Degree in Bookkeeping, taught us only one financial rule that has served me pretty well down through the decades: don't spend money you don't have, a.k.a. live within your means. I didn't actually follow this simple rule in my twenties (and my 69-year-old brother still doesn't) but experience soon taught me its wisdom.
Cei-U! I summon the reason I call myself the frugal fanboy!

My wife and I put aside 200 hundred every paycheck, and I try to use my debit card instead of my credit card for purchases. The problem is , that my wife is bad with money while I am the more frugal of the two. I took a big hit in my taxes this year. I went from getting about 2 grand back to paying 1300.

Meanwhile, in Sri Lanka, followers of a certain religion have taken it upon themselves to blow up churches to ingratiate themselves to their god. More than two hundred innocent people will never see another dawn. Two hundred irreplaceable people. Humans indulging in such heinous acts are beyond pathetic. It’s like they actively hope for a day we are all at each other’s throat, stupidly believing than anyone can emerge victorious from a global bloodbath. Is it so #$& hard to understand that the golden rule is the absolutely best way for everyone to live a happier and better life, no matter what else we might believe? Criminy, most sacred books even state it in no uncertain terms. But noooooo, much better to let primitive, reptilian brain urges take over. God must be so happy when we behave like monsters.

God must be so happy when we behave like monsters. Quite the opposite. I'm sure God is sad when this happens.

Quite the opposite. I'm sure God is sad when this happens. One would assume that all people believing in God would think so, but... Those people really don't believe in God... they have deceived themselves. It angers me when these false "believers" perform evil acts and then claim God is behind the reason for their actions.
