Son of a BITCH!! Just got a notice from my credit union that I'm over $90 overdrawn. Why? Because instead of paying Century Link $104 this month, I accidentally paid them $194... and they, of course, accepted the overpayment without saying a word. Worse, the bank emptied my meager saving account to cover it and still left me in the hole. Damn my "fat-fingered" typing and numeric dyslexia! I'll go talk to my CU when it opens up but I don't think it'll make much difference. DAMN it!!!
Cei-U! I summon the frustation!
By the way, this is not a plea for help. I'll figure it out. I'm just venting.

That sucks, Kurt. It's totally chicken-shit that Century Link kept the over-payment. Absolutely predictable. But chicken-shit.

We have nothing but bad feelings for Century Link in rural Oregon. There's a lot of talk nationally about lack of choices for internet in rural parts of the U.S. and my BF seems to feel he has to stay with these guys to keep his phone number... which I found was listed in two phone directories without his being asked or knowing about it, including street address, he get all kinds of robocalls and crap mail he doesn't want because it's addressed (he has a no junk mail thing set up with the post office). I hope something is done to get decent internet to people outside big cities like Seattle that doesn't cost a lot or totally suck. Seems like Canada does better, faster, cheaper on this.

Try to look on the positive side. Now you are $90 ahead on your next months bill. Just pay the remaining balance and you can feel better about the oopsie doopsie Sometimes I will overpay on my electric bill in the winter/spring to help ease the cost expenditure during the hotter summer months when the air conditioning has to run all day and night. Helps to ease the pain in the old checking account don't ya know!!!

Update on my BROTHER
Next week, he is on his last week of CHEMO and doing just fine. My other brother and I will be joining him for Coffee early Monday Morning before he goes into therapy. Next week it is a short week, going in on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. After this he rest at home and start on a three month of rest, surgery, and more rest. His Doctor inform him by Labor Day to find out whether he is Cancer Free or not. This is all I know and he's ahead of schedule by 1 week and doing everything to get rid of it. In July he'll work 20 hours a week doing paperwork and not doing any heavy lifting and his Doctor is okay with that. This way he can extend his medical leave another month with no complications at all.

Big companies just don't care. Years ago we mailed our payments to the electric company and, I think, the phone company. Of course one check was bigger than the other and we didn't find out until the company that got short-changed started complaining. But both cashed the checks even with the wrong name written on them.

Have a great time! The weather's been terrible here of late, but it's gotten better just recently and the forecast for London over the next couple of weeks is a lot better than it's been for the past month. So enjoy the rare British sunshine.

My wife and I booked our accommodation in Nashville and Memphis tonight for our trip to the South. We're doing 4 nights in the former and 3 nights in the latter, before we move on down into Mississippi and beyond. Looks like we got some really nice digs and not too pricey either...especially in Memphis. It's 13 weeks tomorrow that we fly...not that I'm counting or anything.

I'm surprised that you got such an inexpensive price at the start of the Summer vacation season. Have a great trip !

I'm surprised that you got such an inexpensive price at the start of the Summer vacation season. Have a great trip ! Is late September to mid-October summer vacation season? I would've thought that would be June to mid-August (or even early September). I have no idea really though. Something I have come to realise about the Mississippi delta region, from looking online and also talking to a friend who visited the area about 5 years ago, is that there's actually precious little tangible "blues stuff" to see anymore. There's the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale, which I'll definitely be visiting, and I want to see both the legendary crossroads, where Robert Johnson supposedly sold his soul (depending who you believe it's either the crossroads of Highways 49 & 61 in Clarksdale, or it's the one outside Dockery Farms). There's also the Ground Zero blues club in Clarksdale, which looks like it'll be worth a visit. But other than that, there's really not much. When you look at the Blues Trail website, which someone (I think maybe Slam or mrp) was kind enough to link me to, it's basically a collection of plaques at historic locations, saying that such-and-such happened here or so-and-so died here or this-and-that building once stood on this spot etc. There's very little left that's actually tangible. Of course, I also just want to soak up the delta scenery and atmosphere, and interract with the locals, but yeah...it's surprising to me just how little is left that's related to the blues. I'm trying to convince my wife to let us stay in an old share-cropper's shack on a cotton plantation on the banks of the Tallahatchie River ("Ode to Billy Joe" anyone?), but she seems dubious about that. I married a posh Windsor girl, and she don't like roughing it! The other thing that's become apparent from my internet research, and things I've read on the Mississippi city-data.com forum that Rob Allen linked me to, is that the delta region of Mississippi is still cripplingly poor.
