Wonder Woman #39 by James Robinson, Emanuela Lupacchino, and Carmen Carnero.
The art is gorgeous. Lupacchino draws a very capable Wonder Woman that retains femininity and doesnt look mannish. Silver Swan looks creepy, especially a panel towards the end of the book. There is a shift in a art in the middle of the book for a page or two that isn’t nearly as nice as Lupacchino’s. One of Luppachino's panels reminds me of the movie with WW sliding across the floor while fighting.
The rest of the book is just a mess. The story is a big fight between WW and Silver Swan. There’s a scene of Darkseid standing around talking, blah blah blah. There’s a a quick scene with Steve. Whiny, useless Jason is still around.

Art 8/10 (I would’ve given the art a 10 if not for the few pages by the other artist)

These James Robinson arcs just go on and on.

The Darkseid pages were a waste of time. The only good thing about using Darkseid as the ongoing "big bad" is that Robinson isn't getting a chance to interpret a major Wonder Woman villain in his place.

Captain Canuck (2017) #2. Written by Kalman Andrasofszky. Art by Leonard Kirk and Emmanuelle Chateauneuf. Cover by John Gallagher.

First the bad. This book was due out June 2017. That is a HUGE delay. Publishers need to take note on how to launch a series from Titan Comics. Their recent Fighting American had all 4 issues of the first arc come out on time every month. Also Kirk is only doing layouts. So while the finished art is decent it is a little too cartoonish for my tastes.

The good. Beautiful cover. A comic that "feels" Canadian.

The story: PACT (think JLA) are fighting the alien that is destroying Toronto & Northguard has his arm ripped off. Meanwhile at Equilibrium HQ Michael Evans (Canuck's brother) just wants to be away from the world but PACT won't let him. They need him back in the fight to help stop the alien attack. In Manitoba Tom Evans (Canuck) is trying to lead a normal non superhero life in a small village. However he gets called back into action... again. But this time he answers the call & on the last page he appears as Capt Canuck ready to fight the alien.

I'm torn. I like this book. But the delays hurt my ongoing interest in the title. I will finish this arc but I doubt I will get the next arc unless ChapterHouse can start getting their books out on time. Just found out #3 isn't due out until June 2018. Ugh!

X-O Manowar #11. Written by Matt Kindt. Art by Ryan Bodenheim. Cover by Giuseppe Camuncoli.

In the last 10 issues we have seen Aric go from being a farmer on an alien world (Gorin) to being Emperor of that world. However in this issue everything unravels. His enemies have hired bounty hunters to destroy him. And it appears they have done that. However we know Aric is a warrior. By the end of the issue he plots a way to get his armor back & get revenge...

Kindt continues his excellent tale of Aric's rise to power & his decline. This past year has been well written. The art has been excellent as well except this issue was not as good as previous issues. It lacked the "lush" feeling that other artists brought to this book. Maybe that was intentional since this issue was Aric's downfall.

 This relaunch of Aric (X-O) has been stellar.

Canadian feel: Settings. References. Etc. You know it isn't set in USA. Plus you get the feeling that writer knows these places rather than just researched them.

Art: definitely NOT as good as the first volume in 2015.

Arm: I agree. This seems to be a new trend in comics right now. Characters losing an arm. But this is comics & they get a replacement that is as good as their organic arm. So what's the point? It really serves no purpose overall.

As I said I will probably drop this book when this arc is done.

Doomsday Clock #3 - by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank

So, we see how the Comedian arrived in Metropolis, Veidt almost suffers the same fate he inflicted on Blake, Mime and Marionette get introduced to the Joker's crew, and Batman pulls a fast one on Rorschach in Arkham.

I'm still interested in this even though I'm unsure of where exactly this may be heading. Through scenes with Johnny Thunder, Johns continues to build this new mystery surrounding the proliferation of American metahumans while the ongoing sub-narrative of Nathaniel Dusk appears to be this series' version of Tales of the Black Freighter (though I do love how they establish Dusk as a series of 40s noir films). We learn some more about the new Rorschach and what he was doing prior to Veidt enacting his plan. Though given his sometimes tendency towards conspiracies, Batman's reaction here was a bit odd. (And more odd, his costume was different. The yellow oval was back in his chest symbol). There's a possibility of who Dr Manhattan's hidden identity may be based on the supporting back material but it may simply be a red herring by Johns.
