And it's now being reported that Marie Severin has passed from a stroke at age 89. Marie could simply do anything artistically. An amazing penciler. A great colorist. Equally adept at adventure and comedy. One hopes that she and big brother John can jam again on a great new story.

What sad news. She was such a major talent, who made a real mark on comics - and was a vital part of Marvel for a few decades. R.I.P.

As best I can tell, with the death of Marie Severin, Angelo Torres is the last remaining creative link to the classic EC Comics.

Aw, Man. I met Marie at ComicCon early this century and had a chance to tell her that her Kull was the best sword-and-sorcery art this side of Hal Foster. She was absolutely delightful. Sleep well, dear lady.

Giant of a talent, dwarfing most of those she worked around, when you look at all of the areas in which she excelled. As was once noted, she did all of the things that other artists did, making the rounds of the publishers, looking for work; but, had to do it in heels!
There is a great 3-way interview with Marie, Ramona Fradon, and Trina Robbins, in the original Comic Book Artist magazine and she was also featured in a later Back Issue that focused on women in comics. Loved her humor work for Marvel and her Kull.

One hopes that she and big brother John can jam again on a great new story. Well said. Marie's body of work was so far reaching, that few Silver and Bronze Age comic fans would pick up a title that was touched by her talented hand, wheather they were aware of it or not. |

Marie Severin -- is one of the best penciller that I've ever seen. Man, she rocks with the pencil and does it with style and precision. I enjoy her work in EC Comics; and that's where I first encountered her work in general.

I met Marie Severin at San Diego Comic-Con in the late 1990, and she was great! Giggly almost. She is hilarious! I mentioned the Hulk and she started telling me how much fun it was to work with Trimpe.

I met her once when I was working in Brooklyn. She was one of the sweetest people I have ever met. The Kull books she did with her brother John are some of my all time favorite comics.  |

What a crap day this is turning out to be for comic book fans. Getting older sucks, because the adults you liked and looked up to when you were younger continue getting older themselves, and when they inevitably start passing away, it's another piece of your fleeting youth disappearing forever. I never had the chance to meet her, but she sounds like she was a great personality and fun person to be around, and she is responsible for one of my all-time favorite comic book covers:  |

I was reading the obit notice that Evanier wrote for her on his blog and he mentioned 'the joyous stories' where her pencils were inked by her brother John. I gather that occurred here on Kull? This is sad to hear but what a wonderful talent and creativity to have shared that will endure for many, many years to come. God Bless, Marie |

A lovely person and a brilliant artist. Her stint on Kull remains the definitive version of the character (and his world) to me.
The world is a little poorer today.
