I absolutely love... DC comics in the early 1980s (around 1982 to 1985) which were great. Some of my favorite stuff coming from them at the time.
All Star Squadron, Amehtust, ARak, Arion, Batman, Batman and Outsiders, Blackhawk, Blue Devil, Brave and the Bold, Captain Carrot, Supergirl, DC Comic Presents, Detective Comics, Flash, Captain Atom, Firestorm, GI Combat $1, Infinity Inc, Jonah Hex, LOSH, New Teen Titans, Night Force, Omega Men Swamp Thing, Superman, Warlord, Star Trek, Suicide Squad, Unknown Soldier, Wonder Woman Weird War, House of Mystery.
These were good reads at the time and even better today IMO.

Marvel had some great stuff at the same time. Yes Marvel was doing great too in the early 80's, but being a Marvel Zombie I was suddenly finding LOTS of DC in my pull box at the LCS since I was now finding them regularly whereas before the 80's and the LCS my DC findings were much more limited. Marvel 82-85: with a slightly smaller output I was purchasing in comparison to DC. Avengers, Alpha flight, Captain America, Daredevil, Defenders, FF, GI Joe, Hulk, Iron Man, Indiana Jones, Kazar, Micronauts, Moon Knight, MTU, MTIO, MOKF, Peter Parker, Powerman/Iron Fist, ROM, Spider-Man, Star Wars, Thor, X-Men

I think the motto right before Crisis was something like “The new DC: there’s no stopping us now”, and I really enjoyed not only their new comics but also the feeling of creative energy of that era. Arak, Warlord, Night Force, Blue Devil, Swamp Thing, Batman by Moench and Newton, Firestorm, the New Teen Titans... Lots and lots of good stuff!!!

Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Flash, Wonder Woman, Robin, etc. I came into comics right at the time all these flagship characters were being revamped with younger and newer versions of the original characters. They had good writers and artists and were consitently good. Plus all the newer titles like Darkstars, Takion, Firebrand, were fun too, even if many of the series were short lived. Despite knowing more about Marvel characters than DC, thanks to animated series on TV being more of Marvel than DC, I quickly found myself abandoning a lot of Marvel's titles and buying more DC in that decade. Yeah a lot of it was Batman too, but all the above mentioned titles I enjoyed from that decade as well.

Oh yes. I feel that the 80’s were the real Golden age of comics. Well, that's certainly when I was most into it. It was a combination of things: new comic shops opening, new publishers, expanded store appearances and comic shows... suddenly the business didn't seem moribund.
And DC, under Kahn and Giordano, were really working to build a relationship with readers, as well as trying new things (some successful, some not).

HMMMM lets compare 1992 through 1995 with what I was purchasing and see whats up. Marvel: Spider-Man, Avengers, Avengers West Coast, Captain America, Deathlok, FF, GI Joe (winding down), Guardians of Galaxy, Infinity War/Crusade, Thor, Namor, New Warriors, Quasar, Sleepwalker, Spectacular Spider-Man, Wonder Man, Occasionally Darkhawk, Ghost Rider, Doom 2099, DC: Actiopn Comics, Adventures of Superman, Batman, Demon, Detective Comics, Doom Patrol, Flash, Green Arrow, Hawkworld, Justice Society of America, LOSH, Star Trek, Trek Next Gen, Superman, Man of Steel, Team/New Titans, Occasionally Legends of the Darknight and Shadow of the Bat, Running pretty much even for me. By this point was equal in quality for me between the big 2. A lot more of my spending was now focused heavily upon just what I liked most and continuing with independent companies series which I had grown fond of.

Oh yes. I feel that the 80’s were the real Golden age of comics. Probably the comic book company publishing in the 80s I’ve seen the most fondly remembered by other people outside of DC and Marvel is First Comics, Grimjack and Nexus in particular:

Oh yes indeed. I was getting EVERYTHING from 1First comics fresh off the press! Sold all of them about 20 years back for a nice profit to a guy opening up his own LCS after managing one for someone else. It was all new, unique & different from all the superhero antics at Marvel & DC. Splendid art, great writers & fun.

I loved First Comics. I was working in A LCS at that time. Nexus. American Flagg. Grimjack. They had so many viable and different titles that were vastly different from DC and Marvel at that time.

When Mike Baron created Nexus and Badger back to back I thought he might be the next Stan Lee.

I absolutely love learning new stuff about comics! Like how did I not know Todd McFarlane put Felix the Cat in like every comic he did in the early 90s (and beyond? ). I wouldnt say I am a huge McFarlane fan (I think his run on ASM, Batman and his earliest Spawn stuff is good and I enjoy it) but I still feel like I should have known this. Also, not knowing that Brave and the Bold issues always hinted or showed which team up was meant to happen next? Cool! Again, not a big DC guy so that is probably why this tidbit slipped past me.

This was not a feature of B and B throughout its run, but a fun treat that started in the midst of Jim Aparo's long run on the series. Can't give you the exact issue when it started, and I really can't recall if it occurred right through 199, the penultimate issue. MWGallaher, do you know offhand?

I remember it being in the 180's on to the end. Of course I'm not a BB expert. Paging Cei-U! !
