I disagree. One can argue about The Eternals movie versus the Kirby original. But the movie was good, it was far more nuanced and thoughtful than most MCU movies and had some pretty good visuals and direction and acting. It was in fact, REALLY GOOD.

I liked The Eternals movie as well. But if anybody ever does an Eternals TV series, they should go back to Kirby.

Plenty of Kirby to mine story, plot and design wise. Outside of using the names, the Eternals has very little Kirby within it. Sad really that NONE of Kirby's ideas and grandeur will ever be seen on the big screen. The closest has been Thor (all 3 movies but especially Ragnarok) and then Guardians of the Galaxy with their Eternal teases and cosmic elements 😢

With the passing of time, I've lost interest in the movie, though I might still watch it some time just to see how they handled the Celestials. I already know that I don't like the visuals for the Eternals themselves that much. Gemma Chan and Salma Hayek are two of my favourite actresses but from the previews, neither one seems to have been particularly well-served by their parts in this film - though it's possible that it was just a badly-made trailer, which does happen from time to time.

Gemma Chan is quite good and the movie lead. You should give it a chance.

Her presence in anything is always a big draw for me, so it's quite possible that some day I'll suddenly feel the need to watch it just for that reason. This may sound strange, but I think she should have been cast as Thena: not because she looks anything like the visual design in the comics, but because of her particular stage presence and onsceen aura which I think does fit the Kirby character. And coincidentally, she has in fact played the goddess Athena on stage, though I haven't been able to find any videos or samples of it online. More obviously, I think Salma Hayek should have been Sersi.

I finished the Eternals Omnibus, digital format. Like most of the Kirby work I have re-read of late, it has aged very well. His dialog is better than I remember and his art was not in decline. I will do a longer review if I find the time and can motivate myself. Two things, this should not have been in the Marvel Universe (it barely was), and the "Hulk story was the weakest in the series. Also I do wonder what his long term story plans were? Was there an end to the Celestial visitation?
