World's Finest #8. Continuing the Boy Thunder arc. Waid & Mora just continue to create an old school fun style wih some modern touches mixed in. This is still my favorite title currently being published.
Nightwing #97. The aftermath of Blockbuster's death by Heartless. We see the police trying to "clean up" Bludhaven before new crime bosses move in to take his place. Dick & Babs explore a more serious relationship.
Capt America: Symbol of Truth #6. The title recovers a bit after last issues slight drop in quality. Sam has to deal with more fall out as nations near Wakanda demand some reparations due to big economic differences. The New Falcon ends up poisoned and Ian Rogers as Nomad will be helping Sam next issue.
Moon Knight #16. Year Two sees the creative team switching gears slightly but the story quality continues to stay high as Moon Knight goes up against a vampire army. |

I'm not so sure about Nightwing, while the issue itself was decent and I loved the scenes with Dick and Babs...the ending gave me pause. I thought the last run was garbage and skipped out before Ric Grayson became a thing...but how is he back? Why is he back? |

GCPD: The Blue Wall #1Written by John Ridley Art by Stefano Raffaele Summary: As Commissioner Renee Montoya inducts the newest class of recruits into full members of Gotham's finest, they learn it's hard to be blue.
Plot: When I first picked up this book I was initially slightly disappointed that Ridley's latest look at the GCPD lacked the colorful aspects of Gotham that previous books like Gotham Central and Gordon of Gotham did...but the further I read the more I was able to get past that preconceived notion and see the book for what it was and that was a much deeper and realer look at police work than any other comic I've read ever has. What struck me first was just how well Ridley was able to avoid making the book seem like a piece of "copaganda" romanticizing the role of police in society and showcasing all officers as paragons of virtue while at the same time not coming across as slamming the police; Ridley truly delivers a diverse and nuanced perspective of police work that highlights the problems society has with modern policing as well as the important function it serves. And while Rene Montoya was definitely familiar to readers the rest of the principle cast introduced here were completely new(both to us readers and new to the job of policing Gotham City) and I think that was an excellent choice by Ridley. While it would have been great to see old favorites like Bullock or Crispus Allen by using new characters Ridley frees himself from any baggage and creates a completely clean slate to explore modern police issues. On top of that I really enjoyed that each of the three rookies we're following is involved in different aspects of policing, from a low pressure beat in a tourist area to a high pressure boy's club precinct of high achievers and the parole side of serving newly released former convicts. It's not something we've seen before and while I'm sure we'll no doubt get some of the more colorful aspects of being a cop in Gotham I'm really enjoying the realistic take and I can't wait to see more.
Art: I think what really won me over right off the bat was just how grounded Raffaele's art looked. His style immediately recalled to mind the lived in look that Michael Lark used on Gotham Central. It looks so real that you really feel the stakes in the plot and the colors had an awesome pulpy, saturated style that I just loved.

This just might end up being my favorite run on Moon Knight, I love the Midnight Mission and the supporting cast is great. Marc has come back from the dead a few times so I'm guessing this isn't the last we'll see of Hunter's Moon. |

Midnight Suns continues to be a fun, meat and potatoes superhero kind of book. Despite the threat of an apocalyptic event the stakes never really feel very high as Wolverine, Magik, the Native American Ghost Rider and Blade duked it out with Doctor Doom for no real good reason other than it was a nice action scene. It's colorful and bombastic and sometimes that's good enough.

Holy course correction Batman(er I mean Captain America)! If I hadn't read the byline I would have thought this was a new creative team on Symbol of Truth, although it has the White Wolf and the briefest connection to the Wakanada plot it nearly feels like a fresh start by a new team. Now, I know it's too soon for it to be an actual reaction to fan reaction about the last issue, so that makes this title all the weirder as it's hard to see such a quality change between issues like this. I really enjoyed the political intrigue, the action was great and I liked that Cap didn't win despite his best efforts which gives it a feeling of having real stakes. What about you The Captain , as a long time Cap fan what do you make of such a sudden shift in tone and quality? |

I'm still not sold on the Dick-Babs relationship, so Nightwing was not my favorite issue, we'll see where they are going with it... seems very odd. Things are convoluted enough with Dick having a half-sister, but we'll see how it goes.

Fables has reached the mid point... this was a good one. Most of the Wolf childrens adventures conclude, and we get a little progress on Pan.. good stuff.
Most intriguing is the next issue box '6 years later....' I was wondering if this story was going to connect up at some point with the Connor book from a couple years ago.. seems like we're going to find out.
