That Shatterstar cover is horrendous. If a kid showed that to a pro at a convention, he would be told to go to Art School. Yeah, instead they give this artist a big big check.

This could go in the one letter off thread as Bladder Blood. Might make a better read. Heehee. Below your usual standards... Since when have I had standards?

Getting a check does not justify or protect poor art, as comic book history has witnessed innumerable bad artists gain employment, but they were still bad artists.

My main takeaway from all this: Thumper? Really, Rob? That's the best you could do?

I have no personal animosity toward Leifeld, I just don't think he is a good artist. I don't begrudge his success. And the things I am talking about is first year art school stuff. And yes, it is blatant to any artis that his anatomy is wrong. Someone who has been drawing comics for 30 years should know better. I can't comment on his abilities at writing or storytelling because I haven't read enough, or any of his books. Hey, don't get me wrong from my comment. I can understand why you hate his art... I was just saying from THAT EXAMPLE I couldn't really see what you were seeing. I think ALL of the original Image crowd produced some of the ugliest artwork ever seen by man. When I was in college, and they started up, I was broke and couldn't afford my comics habit... I would go to the comics store and page through the Image books, and realize I was missing NOTHING. To this day, I can't read, even a page of their terrible tripe. Same goes for Marvel and DC at the time, as they were forcing artists to ape their styles. I mean, Herb Trimpe... what are you doing, man?

Big bucks has nothing to do with quality, Full Stop, end of story. It is a useless argument when we are talking about the actual work. I am sure we could all fill multiple pages here with pure crap that made lots of money. In the art world itself, I can think of a few names that made millions and were garbage.

I did say, outside of some serious anatomy problems, that cover isn't bad, it's Neal Adams compared to the second cover.

This reminds me of MCU die-hards who use the money its made as a marker of quality, when most of it is kiddie garbage. Stallone movies (collectively) have made a ton of money, but I do not know a single soul who would say most were of any artistic quality. This applies to Liefeld's chicken-scratch almost more than any other artist.

Are they great, like 2001 or The Godfather or a Bergman film? No. But they are great for their genre. The way comic books can be great. Doesn't mean they are Moby Dick or To Kill a Mockingbird. Compared to the Fast and Furious films, they are Lawrence of Arabia. This is irrespective of the money they make.

Deadpool: Badder Blood has sold out and is going to a second print. This could go in the one letter off thread as Bladder Blood. The character will change their name to Thunderclap!
