Happy birthday! Avengers #57 is one of the comics that made me a Marvel fan for most of my childhood and teenage years.

Here's the Avengers comic that did come out on 10/10/1968: That one I didn't get to read until many years later, as an adult.

Here's the Avengers comic that did come out on 10/10/1968: That was one of the handful of comics I bought with my own money for the very first time. My dad had just started giving me a $20/month allowance and, by a stroke of good luck, a new supermarket had just opened in our neighborhood that carried pretty much all the Marvel and DC super-hero titles. I got this, Amazing Spider-Man #68, Thor #159, Iron Man #9, Doctor Strange #176, Silver Surfer #4, Not Brand Echh #11, and an issue of Cracked's For Monsters Only. It was a good day!
Cei-U! I summon my first exposure to John Buscema's art!

Oh, that's such a great feeling to buy more than one or to comics at a time. My grandfather once gave me four shiny new quarters, earlier that summer, at a cousin's graduation. I immediately walked right across the street to a candy store where I spent the entire buck on eight comics, a few of which remain emblazoned in my memory.

Actually I think this is a better cover and thought of having it blown up and framed
