I'll second Trees and particularly Injection, both by Warren Ellis. I'll add Lazarus by Greg Rucka and Michael Lark, Black Magick by Rucka and Nicola Scott, and Southern Bastards by Jason Aaron and Jason Latour to that list. Also look at some other publishers, try Cullen Bunn's Sixth Gun from Oni for instance, Mind MGMT by Matt Kindt from Dark Horse and Walt Simonson's Ragnarok from IDW. -M Mind MGMT is amazing. I have one volume still to go.

I just purchased the digital trades of Autumnlands (Vol.1 & 2) by Busiek and Descender (Vol.1) by Leimire on Comixology. I've read up to around issue 11 of Atumnlands and enjoyed it, but various distractions forced me to put my new comics explorations on halt for awhile. I'm going to read-read and get caught up with that series and dive into Descender at the same time. I'm making a serious effort to give any Image/creator owned title of interest a try given how convoluted and tiresome I'm finding Marvel and DC these days. Try as I might, I can't get into new Marvel/DC stuff. In terms of new comics, I buy digital and I've decided to only buy the trades and only if they are DRM-free books (thank you Image for that) deciding that I want to limit the number of files I'm accessing with these series (I still buy collected editions and trades, mainly of classic material, and almost exclusively Silver/Bronze age when it comes to individual issues). There's so much good stuff coming out from Image these days, it's just ridiculous. Check these out: Trees Injection East Of West Black Science anything by Ed Brubaker The Fix Manhattan Projects Chew anything by Brandon Graham

Last time I bought a comic I normally wouldn't buy was when the Riddler appeared in an issue of Green Arrow, back when Judd Winick was writing it. I figured the guy who created Barry Ween, Boy Genius would easily be able to write an absolutely hilarious, weird, twisted version of the Riddler.
Boy, was I wrong.

I don't get why Republicans don't just push for something akin to the Swiss healthcare system. It still upholds the individual mandate, which liberals/progressives would love, and removes government insurance and stops employers from providing insurance to employees, which conservatives would love. Obamacare was basically Swisscare-lite and could probably give both sides something they want. Because that would help people. Republicans don't want to help people. If they did, they wouldn't be Republicans.

When there's a dog in the corner growling and snarling, I'm pretty sure the best approach to dealing with it isn't to poke it with a stick. It matters, however, why the dog is growling and snarling. If it's because it has a thorn in its paw, you approach it cautiously and try to help it, as the problem can be remedied and it can be healed and brought back to a good place. If it's because the dog is rabid, you shoot it in the head, stuff the body in a garbage bag, dump it deep in the woods, and move on, because there isn't anything that can be done at that point to improve the situation. That's cool. So how do we do that to Kim Jong Un without also taking out 25 million innocent North Koreans? (I'm assuming you meant him and not the other growling and snarling rabid dog that can't be reasoned with)

Okay, I'm going to say it. I hate Trump. I HATE Trump, and I hate all that he represents...but I think he might be right about how to handle North Korea. We've tried diplomacy, we've tried red lines, we've tried sanctions and more sanctions. But when a country just keeps threatening and threatening to nuke us, and their ability to do so becomes more imminent each day, maybe you have to take them out before they can take you out. No one wants a nuclear war, and no sane president wants to be the one who engages his or her nation in one, but I'm not sure Trump is sane. This is likely going to get ugly, and I doubt history will remember him well for his role here, but I truly worry that things will be a lot worse if Trump doesn't stand up to the threat and bully the bully. I expect to get a lot of flack for this, but convince me I'm wrong. What other approach has any chance of working at this point? Wait and see definitely isn't an option any longer. When there's a dog in the corner growling and snarling, I'm pretty sure the best approach to dealing with it isn't to poke it with a stick.

Late last night. I read bits and pieces of Avengers # 239 guest starring David Letterman. The issue was kind of dumb to read through. I remember that. It was a lot of fun. Even though, being Australian in the early 80s, I had no idea who David Letterman was.

Cap finally appears about halfway through the book in the guise of Steve Rogers, commercial artist, angling for a position at the Bugle. Turns out that's just a cover so that he could be there in case the Scorpion struck. Seems overly complicated to me (and how did he get an interview so quickly?) I guess not many people wanted to work for J. Jonah Jameson.

Edit: Also, is this a legit Marvel comics panel? It looks authentic to me. imgur.com/a/ck5JkThe dick, as is so often the case, has been photoshopped. (also, I was 95% sure I knew what panel it was going to be before I even clicked the link)

The Silver Age Gladiator only fought Iron Man in this two-part story in #7 and #8. He was a Daredevil villain and he appeared a fair number of times starting with Daredevil #18 with John Romita art and also a fairly hilarious segment where Foggy dresses as Daredevil - I forget why, probably trying to impress a woman. I think it was Karen Page, from memory. He'd heard her speaking glowingly of Daredevil, so decided to give her the impression that he was DD.

Curt Connors becomes the Lizard once more after helping Spider-Man do science to defeat The Rhino in the previous issue, because apparently Mister Genius Genetic Biologist thinks the basic rules of lab safety don't apply to him: So Spidey has to try and catch the Lizard because with great power comes great responsibility and can't a guy even catch an hour to paint his motorcycle in peace, but in so doing he sprains his arm and has to be in a sling, which means Peter Parker can't show his face around town for a few days because if people see him in a sling they'll obviously work out that he's Spider-Man and then The Bad Guys will come and get poor, sweet old Aunt May and like Peter doesn't have enough to feel guilty about already.

A shame Trump couldn't resist getting involved and trying to use the incident to promote his own agenda. Urrggh, I know. What a king-sized c*** he really is. Nice to see both Theresa May and the Metropolitan scuffers both publically rebuke him for his "unhelpful" remarks. As somebody on Twitter pointed out, 'unhelpful' is British for 'utterly stupid'.
