I've been reading some classic Avengers lately(amongst a "few" other books), 17-28 so far, and have come to the conclusion that Hawkeye is/was an absolute asshat. He whines about everything and the constant backchat is grating. He is like every jerk smartmouth kid you have to deal with as an adult, and I frankly just want to punch him in the face. God he reminds me of an old guy at work who moans about everything.
Its also very noticable the difference in Captain America, hes actually fallible here, not the Uberhero they have turned him into, well before they made him 90 years old. In some ways I like it, it humanises him to a degree, but I'm glad its not too far from here that they start to treat him with respect and his real leadership skills come through.

My main complaint with the film is the producers need to shoehorn a 2nd villain into the film. They could have ditched Goblin, who managed the impossible by making me wish for the Willem DaFoe version, and had the film climax with the besting of electro, or even with a cliffhanger death of Gwen. Instead they give us another comic inspired movie that cant decide where its going, cram stuff in because we're too stupid to notice, and sit back and wonder why people dont go back to it.
...and if I see another Spider-Man/Superman origin movie...there will be blood

I'd be lucky if there were 10 Comic book shops in my entire country...

I think SAGA would be a great starting point, great writing and art and sympathetic female characters. There is almost enough stuff going on for it to be semi-super, but Star Warsy enough to appeal if shes just not into it.
Elseways try new52 Wonder Woman, Hawkeye(the dog issue), Harley Quinn, or early issues of Capt. Marvel or Ms Marvel, or even some Spectacular Foes of Spider-Man if you can find it. Non-Capes you could go for Rat Queens, Velvet, or Sex Criminals, or depending on her tastes try
HORROR Ghosted Walking Dead Wytches
CRIME Southern Bastards The Fade Out Fatale
SF Manhattan Projects Black Science Bitch Planet
Well there are hundreds to choose from but trying to come up with something non-comic-female-friendly is bloody hard. Good luck.

Hate to hear about your child's vision problems, Raider. I'm going to get an extensive exam and computer glasses, probably today. It's gotten to the point that I either get drowsy or eye strain, or both, after 15 minutes of reading on a computer. As much as I enjoy reading digital comics nowadays, this is just unacceptable. Try a tablet mate, its so much better than scrolling constantly on a laptop or PC. I could never go back, and as much as I love paper books I just dont have the storage.

I think the homogenisation is also a by-product of 50 years of universe building, each character has met numerous times, have done the same things multiple-multiple times.
We do still get books that divorce themselves from the rest for a while, but theyre all drawn back in eventually, like Bru's Captain America was. Its nice while it lasts, but that great big hungry production line demands constant new fodder, and thats where it all starts getting old. This is why I really liked the Ultimate Universe when it started, its potential for NEW was there, and it delivered for a while, until they killed every interesting hero there bar Miles, and now its stuck in SUCK.

At one stage continuity was a good thing, but with over 50 years of conflicting events, or just the sheer quantity of fights each character has had there comes a time when it pulls you out of the story. The idea that Daredevil (well fill in the name of your favourite) has been beaten, stabbed, and shot X amount of times makes me wonder how he walks, let alone runs and fights anymore. How the hell could Batman have ever fought every one of those people AND his JLA appearances AND the Outsiders AND all his guest appearances AND find time to waste as Bruce Wayne ?
For some time I've believed that each character should be published as either an ongoing like Legends of the Dark Knight, with an arc by a different creative team which only has to be consistant within itself, or as a series of mini-series so that creators dont become stale.
I'd rather read a series of good short runs, than 300 continuous issues of mediocrity.

Just binge watched season one of Penny Dreadful and for the most part enjoyed it. Looking forward to season two. My lady and I absolutely loved this and are impatiently awaiting the new season.

One of my sons had to do a school project on Australia and I bought him a jar of Vegemite to try. Horrible! Also: one of my clients was from New Zealand and kept his pens in an empty Vegemite jar. Marmite and Vegemite are trademarked names for two different brands of yeast extract food paste. So yes, they should be capitalised. ... and the products buried in nuclear waste dumps. Though, that might cause unacceptable contamination of the nuclear waste Good, the more for me. I prefer Marmite to Vegemite, and the better way to try is to use very small portions, its strong in flavour so none of this smear it on like mustard on a hotdog. A couple of years back there was a major earthquake in Christchurch, the city here where Marmite is manufactured/processed, and the factory was out of use for over a year. We became a Marmite free zone , with forced conversions to Vegemite (much akin to Catholics HAVING to go to a Mormon church), and small jars of Marmite fetching over a $100 on TradeMe(our EBay). There was a collective national wailing and gnashing of teeth, and after months of empty promises and human sacrifice it was finally back in our shops. There was then the great Crisis (the Crisis of Finite Supply, #s 1-6), stores sold out, as the ravenous hordes descended, and stripped the shelves bare. We survived, barely, nerves were frayed, words were said that can never be taken back, and my lady still stands by the cupboard when we're both in the kitchen, but by the grace of God we survived.

Samsung tablet here, and they are great for reading comics, as opposed to a laptop. Vibrant colours, and with the right app they navigate easily and the "bookshelf" with all the covers looks cool too. Have been tempted to try Marvel Unlimited (?) but don't like what Ive seen of their reader. Seems awkward to me.

Thanks, man. I had no idea what it meant. Jezz is an okay person but everyone has to be respected in this forum. This is really not an issue I want to get into, largely out of respect to Jez, but I just want to clarify that at no point was she disrespectful. She made a demand of the staff that we could not agree to and chose to leave and delete her account in response. She is very much welcome back here. I know you guys dealt with this, but as my colloquialism started something I want to assure you I didnt mean anything by it. While the term does refer to having a tantrum mainly, its also used for lesser displays as well, such as getting upset about being told "no" and leaving/going home. Kind of like a "its my bat and ball, and I'll take them if I want to" situation. I thought it was a light-hearted take on the situation, to explain what others were querying, and never intended to imply I made judgement on an event I had no actual knowledge of.

X-Factor really went downhill for me after about the first 6 issues. Both the writing and the art, but mostly the art. I couldn't even manage to re-read my old X-Factor issues. Couldnt agree more, had to reread the issues in the Fall of the Mutants recently and I thought the art looked like Walt phoned it in. UGLY with next to no background work, compared with the stellae work on Thor a few years before, and the writing was a chore to read too. Thoroughly unenjoyable.
